Having some issues with my Voodoo 5 5500 PCI, I just ebayed it for way too much money since ive always wanted one. It does not appear to like any display settings I set for it. I've tried a bunch of different drivers (on Windows 98) and each time I try to set the resolution to higher than 640x480 and restart, windows 98 complains and says display settings not valid or somesuch and prompts me to change them.

What's the matter? Does it need a recapping or something? I have a motherboard that needs a recapping as well so it would be nice to know so I can get it all in the same part order =P

Thanks for your help

What display/monitor are you using? I’m using an early TFT with mine and it was a combination very sensitive to monitor driver on Windows 98. Most plug and play monitor drivers resulted in either Windows complaining like you are experiencing, or an out of range message on the monitor (even at supported resolutions).

Setting to a non PnP monitor resolved the issues for me.

Yep you were right that's what it was, thanks. Had to set it from PnP Monitor to 1280x1024 Super VGA and then it worked. Nothing wrong with the Voodoo. Hooray.
