Bought recently this dusty old IBM, sold as is, untested.

I hoped that it has at least 486 processor so i could fill that gap on my IBM collection.
Opened the case and there was this tiny 386 sx processor, unfortunately. Damn.

But there was this strange round cooler on top of it, and 72 pin simm sockets caught my interest to.

Did some testing and it turns out pretty fast thing. Even a bit faster than 386/dx 33! One of the fastest ISA graphics - Cirrus Logic on board. This baby definetly replaces my old faithful AMD dx40 desktop, sorry old pal 😀

Got this motherboard to replace my slot1 p3 in my main machine. I really wanted 2 ISA slots so I can use my DIY adlib and SW60XG, alongside a SBLive for digital audio.

I didn’t buy it today, but I finally got this item from overseas after nearly 3 months of waiting. It’s a 2MB memory module for my Compaq-branded Matrox Impression Plus (Compaq QVision 2000+). It fits perfectly, and Windows reports all 4MB of VRAM available. I got it for $20 US shipped.

Now I can run Windows NT 3.1 at 1280x1024, 16-bit color or 1024x768, 24-bit color. It looks pretty nice at both resolutions with excellent windows acceleration. I wish this card had a faster RAMDAC to support 1080p, but I can live with lower resolutions.

I’m still working on getting it to put out a 720p signal with NT 3.1. No luck so far, but I’m not ready to give up just yet.

Picked up this Sony Vaio desktop recently, it's in pretty good shape aside from missing that front panel that seems to be rarer than a Voodoo 5 nowadays. It's also missing the hard drive caddy but I imagine that's a lot easier to get.

So much front I/O!

While the missing hard drive caddy is a bummer, the fact that this thing came with an already competent video card installed (an ATI Radeon 9200 128MB card, based on what Google tells me) is nice, means I don't need to buy a card.

Not exactly today, but got these very nice pre-1990 network cards from a fellow Vogons member. In the set there are some early 3Com Etherlink, Etherlink Plus, Etherlink II and Etherlink 16 cards:

There's also a 10BASE-FL card there, which is a first for me, and I'm pretty sure I'll never get to use the fibre part, but it's still nice to have:

Yeah that's a tv tuner card. Those were huge back in the day with the Sony viao's they sold them as media center PC's and they came with DVR software. We had one of those back then and it worked rather well.

I still win the ugly award for the media center system I cleaned up a few years ago! haha

Yes, both the "i.LINK" mini FW400 on the front and a standard sized FW400 on the rear, and that is indeed a TV tuner. This thing was a heck of a media center back in 2004.

I got a CT6670 Voodoo2 for an affordable price (50 €) to pair with my other CT6670. Only, when checking the old one, I seem to have an 8MB (old) and a 12MB (new) CT6670. I'll see whether I can find someone brave enough to solder 8 extra chips on the backside.

They should still work in SLI like 2x 8MB cards.

idk 🤣 id be surprised if its more than 512, but I guess it could be 1mb since they are so big.

Went out yesterday to finish my first round of thrift hunting in over a year, ended up finding a mint Dell 2007fpb for $7 which is my new retro monitor!

Also, a couple months ago picked up a Roland SCB-55 add-on card which finally arrived from eastern Europe. Got it installed on the Vortex 2 and now I just need to reinstall Windows 98SE and 2k to really button-up the retro rig.

I bought an old PC via classified ads which arrived last weekend.

The ad was very vague and had only 2 bad pictures.
Unfortunately, the CPU came loose in the case, so I had to bend the pins back first. The CPU-cooler is also broken.
But the worst: The computer does not recognize my (only AT-) Keyboard.

(It's a Pentium 100 with a 2 GB hard disk, FIC PA - 2002 Mainboard, and 32 MB RAM.)

The keyboard connector could have been damaged during transit considering the other loose components you mentioned. Could be a simple case of soldering it back again or fixing some broken traces.

Can't find clear confirmation, but 4180-6 sounds like 16Mbit FP DRAM specced for 60ns. If so, this is 4x16Mb=1MB.

The references I can find for this chip are surprisingly late, around 1996...
