I grabbed 701C the other day and, quite obviously with 486DX4-75, there's no other NES emulator working on this machine than NESticle. It's also well known that NESticle isn't the most accurate emulator in the existence and going through all the NES games just to see if they break sounds painful enough. Since the latest version x.xx was released in 1998 and a lot of websites have gone down since then, I hope there's a random one saved by Wayback Machine that can help me with that.

Nesticle was "good enough" for the longest time and I expect most games work at least somewhat instead of being completely broken.

I also expect there's got to be some other, better emulator that still compiles for DOS and runs fast enough on a 486.

In any case, as you may have noticed, there's very little discussion of console emulation here and you are probably better off asking elsewhere.

The best version of nesticl is not for Windows 95 and instead pure dos, it ran well on every pc I threw it at,
very slow systems I left the sound off

Personally for slow systems nesticle and genecyst are the only options,
nothing else compares and if it doesn’t work under nestcle you don’t need it 😀

A lot of the more advanced memory mapper based games like Castlevania 3 will not work on Nesticle.

Many Japanese games also do not work. It is mainly for US titles. Member playing hell out of Contra and Power Blade 1/2 with it.

I am aroused about any X86 motherboard that has full functional ISA slot. I think i have problem. Not really into that original (Turbo) XT,286,386 and CGA/EGA stuff. So just a DOS nut.
PS. If I upload RAR, it is a 16-bit DOS RAR Version 2.50.

And to add to all the compatibility issues, you need the BAD 1MB dump of Dragon Warrior IV for that game to work in NESticle. I had to make a separate install from my usual FCEUx setup just for my 486es to run properly with that title. I had to dig for hours on the internet too to fund that old, bad, dump.
