Even if i try to play Dune with DosBox i`m having sound problem `coz when i star game every thing works fine untill i talk, when i do such a thing i`m having repeatin` phrases of NPC like
- I ... I ... I ... am ... am ... am ... Duke ... Duke ... Duke - i can not play my favourite game - Did you know it was my first game to play - huh first times allways seem to be worth remembering, i tried VBMSound but having the same as guy before me tried, it quits when an orni starts to fly and when i`m using DosBox i`m having the problem i`ve mentioned ...
My PC is Duron 700 128 MB with GF Anihilator + SB Live 5.1 Digital - know it crap but fastest i can get - still i want to play nice games like Dune but cannot Please help...

Or do you know how to emulate SB Live 5.1 Digital to be SB16 under Dos 6.22 (did you know it`s freeware now) is it possible ???

<<<Kind of fresh in emulating things and slow down pc but veteran in old games - reason why i need solution badly >>>

*** thanx for all*** greg [k0vva1@wp.pl]

This sounds wrong. Especially if what Unregistered #3 says is true.

Yes, it’s my fault.

Dune 1 (CD version) will work with VDMSound provided that you get a newer version of the DSP DLL (send me an e-mail please for that DLL). Dune 2 should work "as is" with VDMSound.

Dune as in:
The Floppy version?
The CD version?
A "CD-Rip" version?

repeatin` phrases of NPC like - I ... I ... I ... am ...

Did you try adjusting speed before starting the game?
Ctrl+F12 to increase speed (The # of cycles will appear in the secondary window).

What version of DosBox are you using?

If you are using v0.57, try changing keepsmall to "=true" in the the .CONF file. If it's still stuttering, try going back to version 0.56

under Dos 6.22 (did you know it`s freeware now) is it possible ???

MS released DOS as Freeware? *sniff* *sniff* I smell a "dorm lawyer".

DOS 6.22 yep in my place to be it`s freeware now - they givin` away copies in computer shops - from whot i`ve heard ... with VDMSound - i`m having probles while starting orni - dune seems to crash under VDMSound - and only without sound it runs fine, and another thing - do you know how to format c: to FAT16 part. ??? in WINXP - `coz in Win 2k i know but now i`m not running my pc with it any ideas ???
Ow i`m playing Dune CD form CD not ripped - just copy of my friends original ( sometimes i wonder how this CD is still readable )...

I did some speed adjustments but the effect is the same but I I I I am am am am Duke seems to be played a bit faster or so it seems to be 😀

It`s DosBox 0.57 and i set fullscreen mode by writing true i shall try 0.56 in comming hours

Try going back in DOSBox revisions until you find one that either won't run the game at all or one that DOESN'T have the sound problem.

Yes, it’s my fault.

More likely is that Microsoft can't be bothered with enforcing the copyright law in Poland. They'll punish their US customers for it, instead.

do you know how to format c: to FAT16 part. ??? in WINXP

Whiff! Why on Earth are you trying to format with FAT16? Are you trying to set up a Dual-Boot? If so, are you aware that formatting C: will (almost certainly) cause you to lose access to your WinXP? There is a way of setting up a dual-boot after XP has been installed, but it's rather tedious and a little complex.

( sometimes i wonder how this CD is still readable )...

Ok, that is not encouraging. Can you confirm this CD works properly on DOS or Win9x?

The cd version of dune will work in Dosbox 0.57
To stop the voices and music skipping / jumping lower to the number of cycles / speed to 1800 or lower.
To get the install to work properly mount the drive correctly (look in the dosbox readme for how to mount the drive).
for example my copy of dune is in c:\games\dunecd. So with bosbox I mount c:\games to be C drive. Then in the dune install I set the save directory to c:\dunecd
Oh and don't let the install auto detect. Go through the "change language and configuration" menu after choosing the save path. Then when it want's to auto detect tell it No. then yes for each option.

It all works fine for me now (apart from a bit of crackling and hissing).

Hope that helps the problem and my instructions were clear enough
