I am hoping one turns up for you soon.

Today I got SP16706 which only listed the E and M Armadas, which shared some previous graphics driver updates, because it was a 2001 release and there was nothing later than Jan 99 listed for 1750, which wouldn't know about DX8. So I unpacked it, then did it as a driver upgrade from device mangler in case the compaq installer barfed on it not being an E500.. which told me it wasn't the best driver because it wasn't WHDL signed, but ignored that and made it install anyway. DXdiag will now happily spin it's boxes in DX8 and DX9 mode. The game that complained, monster truck rumble, now ran, though shadows are a bit weird on it, black squares or a big black patch in ogl renderer. With them off it ran acceptably. The game is nowhere near as good as Monster Truck Madness, Screamer 4x4 or 4x4 Evolution though. Extreme Motocross (From the same bargain pack) ran fast and was quite fun when I could stay on the bike. Might get into that more when I hook up a gamepad.

Do you know which ide standard (size the disk is?) 2.5" standard connector?

Yes it's the standard 44 pin 2.5" PATA connector.

Thanks! If I don't find any ready solutions I'll probably settle with a SD card solution as I have some cards with ok-ish speed. Maybe not SSD fast but good enough.

The problem with pata SATA converters is that some drives just won't read and that would be frustrating if I buy a converter I can't use for something else.

Well the stock 6GB in mine seems to keep the PII fed well enough, so doubt you need anything too high end. I've got 128MB though so not thrashing swap much for offliney late 90s things.

I saw there are some 2.5" ide to msata. The total solution would set you back around 50-60$ (ca 2x what i played for the rest of the computer 🤣) and I doubt you'd really would get even close to the full speed with it.

Well there's 10mm behind the drive with a normal sized drive in there, room to pull it out, you can use some of that, and this type of 2.5" PATA to SATA https://www.amazon.ca/Adapter-Convert-Laptop- … l/dp/B07Z5ZQNWP looks like it would add about 5mm to assembled length and then the drive would be higher, but there's the full height of the bay to work with and a big wad of foam on the hatch in mine, which might need to come off and go underneath the drive. But with that, it looks like you could squeeze cheapest 2.5" SSD in. And that's maybe not even the best price on those, probably get them for half, but I think it's showing prime shipping free.

Gah, dammit, how did I not notice that. Yah, it's perfect for getting full speed out of your 4,500RPM DMA Mode 2 notebook drive on a SATA-3 controller 🤣

So this is what I should have posted.. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07RPD9TZB/ref=sspa_dk_detail_4? I think it was a case of "seen it a couple of weeks ago, yeah that" quick search rather than looking very carefully.

Yeah I will probably get one of those. Just not that one because I risk paying like 25 $ in toll and weeks of delay due to it not being sold on Amazon marketplace and not by themselves..

Happened me the other week so I have started being more careful on amazon. 😒

Yeah I get it, some stuff if I see it's coming from China in 2 months, I'll go look for it on AliExpress instead.

Yeah I think the calculated shipping time is key. If it's more than a week I stay off it. I'm get a SATA converter next Wednesday so it's probably from within Europe in my case.

Don't worry about speed. The south bridge chipset is extremely old, the transfer speed is 33 or 66mbps, so a fast ssd would just be a waste. A CF Card or an SD would be great

Yeah I'll just put an old 'outdated' SSD in it, I need an upgrade in my main modern pc anyway.

The caddy arrived and fits perfectly! It's actually from a 1530d. There is approximately 1.6 mm room heightwise for an adapter. The SATA adaptor I bought from Amazon is 1.5mm.

be careful with the hd cover, it usually breaks in half, where there is a screw I had several that broke in exactly the same place

Ok I will take care. Would be a bummer to break the cover now that I put so much effort into this.

But actually the plastic is my 1750 does not seem to be that brittle in comparison to many other plastics I've seen in keyboards etc. I took the screen apart the other day when I was lubricating the hinges without any problems for instance. Maybe this one has been kept in a decent environment.

Exactly, I'm not sure what's bad for plastic, but some of my notebooks are over 25 years old and are in perfect condition, and others are breaking down. After 25 years, some displays have started to break down, the polarizing film seems to peel off the screen, creating bubbles. I don't know if this is due to keeping them horizontal for a long time, or if heat and humidity have something to do with it...
