Looking at the patch list, is this essentially a wavetable of the SC-88?

Officially i cannot call it like that

Let me ask differently then: am I correct that these are the same waveforms or at least the same patch list?

I think you've received the best answer you can receive already 😉

Mine arrived last friday.
It sounds really good and I also like the fact it has a USB MIDI interface on its own.

Hi,
here is some information on uploading presets for X2GS :
X2GS supports 2 presets, at the following locations :
- Address 0x70000 for User bank Preset
- Address 0x50000 for GS bank Preset

The X2UPLOAD tools will default to the user bank address (0x70000)
If you want to overwrite at the GS preset, change this to (0x50000) before pressing update

You can find the original presets here : https://serdaco.com/downloads/?dir=X2/X2GS_Do … /DefaultPresets
in case you want to go back to the 'factory' sound.

hey @dreamblaster

Nice work im interested in port this X2GS board in something similar like i do with a OPL2 and OPL3duo boards over serial port
i have the following questions
1.The board can emulate a serial port via USB just to send hex and addresess?
2.this board can be access directly from one of the headers port to send hex and address via TTL or RS232?

i wish port the use of this board on a old computers via serial port and DosBox-X

I am not Dreamblaster, but I can attempt to answer.

If by this you intend to ask whether this devices can be addressed as an RS-232 serial device from DOS when connected to a PC over USB, the answer is no . A PC connected to the X2Gs over must be running an operating system that has support for class-compliant USB MIDI interfaces (Windows ME does, as do Windows XP and later operating systems https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hard … --usbaudio-sys- )

The header on the board is not directly accessible via an RS-232 serial port .

If you want to use an X2GS under DOS through an existing RS-232 serial port on your computer, you would need, in addition to the X2GS :

a) https://www.serdashop.com/MPU-232

b) https://www.serdashop.com/CHiLL3

c) to use either the Softmpu program or patched version of the game you want to play (see http://bjt42.github.io/softmpu/ and MPU-232 : RS-232 MIDI interface, compatible with SoftMPU ).

@Dreamblaster, sorry if I missed anything .

Thanks Darry, excellent reply , yes this is how it can be done, currently.

I'm planning also to make a "RS232 to dreamblaster" PCB (similar form factor to https://www.serdashop.com/CHiLLandPhilAdapter)
which would be a more elegant solution. Probably in september/october/november... (too many projects !! 😉 )

Very curious as to how this would work, I know there are USB to RS232 bridges but I never saw one that works the other way around I think..

well it will be RS232 to 2x13 waveblaster header - dreamblaster
not RS232 to usb-midi dreamblaster

Isn't that essentially Chill?

yes it is combination of MPU232 and chill n phil,
so same solution as Darry described, but in 1 small pcb

Which I just tried out and it works a treat. 😀

This is one amazing piece of hardware - authentic retro-sound for vintage and modern systems alike.
My verdict on the X2GS: maximum awesomesauce 😁

Cool! ☺️ When you do, would you consider adding a MIDI-through port to such a unit, so other MIDI devices (such as for instance a Roland MT-32) could be daisy-chained to it?

Thanks, and keep it fun for yourself. No need to rush this.
