I wonder if I can solder a connector to the MIDI part, having a option to put another midi module on this card. It seems having all other components in place, only missing the midi connector.🤔
Any opinions on this? I should check what options the driver offers first.

Also I bought an MGA MYST/MOD2 with 2MB with a Matrox Mystique card. I hoped to upgrade my first graphics card (The Matrox Mystique 220 in the picture. 😁) from 4 to 6 MB. The connectors fitting and the card still works, but it did not recognise the additional 2MB. It stays with 4MB. I could not find any information if this should work or not. Money well spend! 😅

Yes, too bad it uses the plastic push pins I hate so much. I always liked fasteners with metal clips or screws that can take much more punishment and push on the CPU harder.
I bet Intel still uses these plastic pins on their stock coolers.

I don't know. I have like 20 stock Intel coolers with one or both plastic "ears" broken off. I don't say that it's wildly unreliable but I don't like it personally. I usually remove the pins and fasten the CPU with screws instead, or just buy an aftermarket cooler. I don't trust anything plastic on my cooler fasteners.

Asus Crosshair V Formula (+ Phenom II X6-1100T Black)

I figured it might be ok, and although not a speed demon at least the build quality would be better than average boards. Going for durability and compatability here.
And it (barely) fits a FX8350 if using the absolutely latest bios! Granted, the upgraded Formula-Z version would probably been better (heat/functions etc), but you take what you find these days.

Funny thing is, I did not think much vs price at the time, as it was within my 'budget' for such a retro card, and I have never bought AMD of this vintage before, but... looking on ebay now, I notice the CPU alone seems to cost 3 times my _total_ cost (35 euro pre shipping)... Weird.
Probably going to swap it out for a FX8350 anyway... 🤣

Still remains to be seen if it all actually works though, and have not received it yet, but fingers crossed.

Good choice, my main setup from November 2012 to August 2020. Actually the CHV was bought on December of 2011 for the 1090t. Very durable build and 109ot was overclocked to 4 GHz with Corsair H100 for about a year before the upgrade to 8350.
Before I move it to the basement I made a fresh Windows XP Professional SP3 and I believe it's the ultimate Windows XP gaming rig.

Mine has the following setup :

980 Ti
Audigy 5/Rx

Bought this for 40€, should have gotten two v3 gpus also, but he sold them earlier.
Its a creative vibra 16s and the radeon hd 3850 AGP with an accelero S1 + turbo module.

I have an 8320E running on my Crosshair V Formula motherboard. The 8350 and 8320E should overclock about the same on air. The 8320E has a stock speed of 3.2Ghz while the 8350 has a stock speed of 4Ghz. The 8320E is of course rated at a much lower TDP of 95W vs 125W for the 8350. You could also look for and FX 8300 which has a stock clock of 3.3Ghz.

In all reality, the Phenom II x6 has a higher IPC and is going to probably be better for most things due to the horrid cache setup and the way AMD had a gimpy design overall in the FX series of CPUs.

You're also gonna want a pretty beefy cooler if you plan on running an FX "8-core" CPU and want to keep it cool. Those suckers are known for being a furnace, especially when overclocking.

Here, have the PCI Geforce 5500 that I got earlier today for $10. I was originally going to throw it in my PowerMac G3 B&W, but as it turns out it lacks any kind of hardware acceleration in OS9. So, it'll sit on the shelf until I have something that can reliably utilize it. It's kind of overkill for my socket 7 system, and I'm unsure if the PCI-speed would have it be less usable in my Pentium 3 system.

I'm using a PCI 5500 in a Socket 370 PC, with a 1.2GHz Celeron (Tualatin) as that particular PC lacks AGP. Performance wise overall, the whole PC is beaten slightly in benchmarks by another PC - a Coppermine PIII 1.0GHz with a GeForce 4 MX440 8x AGP (operating at AGP 4x) so yep, the 5500 PCI is kinda crap. Personally for me I was happy it's crap, I wanted both PCs to have similar performance. 🤣

Even more funny is the fact, that 3dfx managed to spell "3dfx interactive" wrong on the pcb... :)

Worth mentioning what I didn't pick up today, due to being too hung over to check my mail after posting an offer on old hardware. Offer accepted, but after I didn't respond someone else got lucky.

What did I miss:
- Voodoo 1
- IBM Model M
- Baby AT case with early 486 look about it
- at least 3 small old monitors, probably VGA but not even certain
- a few boxes of other odds & ends which might well have contained more goodness.

Bugger. Could have had all that for very little indeed and have no one other than myself to blame.

Ok often it is the other way around, where you buy something when you're drunk and wake up the next day and wonder why... I heard that this from a friend of a friend, of course... 😉
