I bought a K6-2+ to put in my Socket 7 machine. It's got the BIOS that can be updated to support those CPUs (with correct voltages, multipliers etc). Stupidly, however, I just dropped the new CPU in and tried it out without even thinking about voltages... ran it at 3.3 volts (should be 2.0 volts) core voltage for a few hours. Worked fine for a while but then Quake started throwing page faults! Whatever could be the reason... I realized my mistake and powered it down, but it never did quit, just ran unstable. Am I okay? I hope I didn't damage the CPU.

I'll be trying it with the BIOS update later to see if it still works. I didn't pay a fortune for the CPU, but still. It's a K6-2+.

I also need to find a good PCI video card to match. The S3 Trio64 in there now won't cut it.

Probably a Doa CPU at that point

It may run at greatly reduced clock speeds but you would need to test

I got it from a relatively cheap sale on the forbidden website... they have 4 left. I may buy another just in case because they're so inexpensive.

It's possible it could of been damaged if the cooling solution wasn't up to the task. But if you can get a backup cheap can't hurt to have it and rerun your tests and compare the two.

Yesterday I fitted AMD K6-2 400. Just the core and i/o voltages as near tp spec as could. Then set the speed and multiplier as possiple.
The cpu was fitted to a mobo that was manufactured about 6 months before th cpu was manufactured. Screenfetch in Linux shows it 375Mhz just need go one notch up on the multiplier.
