I recieved two 6526 (C64 CIA) chips and one 8500 CPU today. So I inserted the big 64 pin PLA, a SID and those 3 chips on my ATX64 board.
Still waiting for the TOLB, S-Ram Module and the 6569r5 VIC-II to arive, before I can fire up the DeadTest cartridge and test it all.
Once tests are OK, then I will be purchasing an eeprom programmer and make the AT28c256 Rom chip. (all 3 roms combined)

Then test with actual games and stuff. Then finally I will start making an Ps/2 keyboard adaptor for my ATX64 and install it into the case.
And I need to source a good and new PSU as well.

CL-5904 combo VLB card with OPL2, what the hell is even that?! The other is a SB 2.0 clone.

I think the Combo VLB with an OPL2 was a part of an OEM system of some kind. I've never seen an OPL2 with video integrated.

I am now the (honestly ambivalent) owner of a $1 Bigfoot 9.6a. It was sold to me as "BAD AS IS", and I am pleasantly surprised that the disk not only spins, but passed the Mac OS9 full disk test. That's the only system I had on hand that both supports more than 8GB drives, and had an available IDE slot.

I picked up a Lenovo LCD screen on facebook marketplace today for $20.

17" with a base that spins and adjusts up and down.

I remember those things announced as cheaper huger storage.... annnnnd I never really saw one priced more than a couple of bucks below a 3.5 of same capacity. I'd have been tempted if you got "next size up" for the price you could buy a 3.5 for, but didn't seem to happen.

Their main claim to fame seems to be the first double digit gigabyte drives available to consumers. Either way, it's more of a novelty to me for now. I was originally goign to open it up and turn it in to some kind of an art project, but for now I'll just let it be loud and proud.

It wasn't sold as a faulty drive, just a BAD drive, like all bigfoots were.

You're not wrong. Still, it was in the pile with drives that genuinely sounded like baby-rattles, so it wasn't THAT bad a drive. Heck, it's a TS, so it's even the moderate performance model!

Hmmm, larger platters which means the heads have to move further when seeking which in turn makes the week time a lot longer compared to 3.5" drives.

Bigfoot was originally envisioned to be a larger capacity version of the 3.5 inch drives.

It didn't end up working out how quantum expected though. The extra engineering cost, along with the fact that bit density rocketed up at that time allowing 3.5inch drives to reach that logical size, making a physically larger driver pointless.

I'v got half a dozen perfectly functional BigFoots of varying sizes. There's a 1.2gig one in my Redstone 10MHz XT-Turbo system with XT-IDE card. It has been bullet proof the last 8 plus years it has been installed and performance/capacity is far far better than the MFM/RLL hdd it was shipped with.

No need to make any special brackets up to mount them either. Slot straight in to the 5.25" drive bays and mount straight up.

Yea, I know the feeling... but this kind of luck happends once in a year 😀 all the other times you need to pay the price

This Gigabyte board has a self-destruct feature where a voltage regulator fries any caps nearby. Hopefully a perfect pair for the gorb after recapping.

The GA-BX2000, love it, have some sentiment especially for the Dual Boot logo on startup.
Could you say more about its design issue? I have one of them dead and I wonder if replacing all the caps will fix it immediately or I need to replace something else.

I'm no EE, but component placement + no-name Stone caps seems stupid. That's one certain point of failure. Also the attachment of that orange heatsink is really sketchy. There's a thread on badacaps.

I've yet to perform a smoke test.

I believe this is due to excessive AGP voltage, mostly caused by Voodoo 3 cards?
