I was playing around with my beloved Dreamblaster X3MA and gave Hamtaro's Roland GM soundbank a spin, find the sample attached. It sounds better than I remember to be honest.

I hear a bunch of skipped / missing notes in that recording.

Is it just the audio file or does the X3 actually sound like that?

That's what happens when you try to record on a dual core laptop running a Bloomberg terminal at the same time. So yeah it's my recording error, I edit the post above with the re-recorded file.

I see a new video by Phil, mentioning an issue with Descent music. So I also recorded Descent on chill pcb, without applying the volume fix.
It has quite deep bass, and high volume, but on my setup it does not sound as bad as on Phil's.
Phils video : https://youtu.be/6lTp1l8LYD0
My recording : descent_yucatanFX.mp3

If you have a low end soundcard, it is best to fiddle with mixer settings or the sysex file, as Phil recommends, to avoid distortion.
Any Yucatan/Cancun users can provide further advice ?

I created an equalizer preset for Yucatan FX!
I tried to get a more balanced sound and avoid any clipping for max quality.
In addition, i added a 'Low' version for very sensitive soundcards.
It comes as Midi file you have to play before starting your game.
Hope it helps someone!

Yucatan FX Preset - Descent.mp3

This did not work for me, PLAYMID gets stuck when trying to play the MID. Celeron 1300 system, ES1868 sound card. PLAYMID is speed sensitive perhaps?

Ok so am I the only one with problems with this?

Remember Yucatan FX needs +12V so was not compatible with the 'normal' small CHiLL 'n Phil adapter (which had only 5V).
Today I tested the new CHiLL n Phil IV (with DC/DC option) with Yucatan Fx.

See it at work here with Yucatan Fx - hocus pocus : https://youtu.be/Zw8y8r37X5Q

The Module only delivers 0.5W on + and -12V hm i guess some WT will draw more current, so its only for use with Yucatan ?

I would expect the +12V/-12V to be sufficient, but there is also a limitation in the 5V current a soundcard can deliver on the DB15 port.
I only tested with Yucatan now. I would expect other small waveblaster cards to work fine, but would advise caution with large, power hungry cards (like XR385)

This adapter designed to work with DB50XG which powered by gameport only. Additional DC-IN provided.

Tested by mine on AWE32 and AWE64 Gold with various results on various exemplars - some cards deliver enough power for it some not.

Have you got it running?

Has anyone else tested my presets in dos?

I've tested only in Falcosoft Midi Player..

No I never resolved it and ended up dismantling that system. I will reinstall it on an ESS Solo-1 in an LGA775 board soon though, so we'll see how that one goes..

I've tested now in DosBox. PLAYMID.EXE seems to run fine!

I've been using Hummtaro's presets for some time under DOS 6.22 with PlayMid. It has worked for me with an ES1668. If I don't enable the MPU with the ESS tools, PlayMid hangs the system.

@Hummtaro: those presets are fantastic!

I'm glad I got the Yucatan FX, I was wondering though, how different is the X2GS in terms of SC-55 fidelity?

Very similar. It has a near identical waveset but a rather (too) bassy mixer that can distort on some sound cards.
