I'm looking for WindowsMedia-KB942423-x64-INTL.exe. This appears to be a redistributable specifically for the VC-1 decoder and is newer than what is provided by Windows Media Player 11.

The file is referenced at the following (broken) links:

It is not available on the Windows Update Catalog.

REMOVED

Does anyone have a copy of this?

I've attached WindowsMedia-KB942423-x86-INTL.exe here for archival purposes.

This guy had it in 2008: https://trog.qgl.org/20081024/vc-1-codec-for- … ws-server-2003/
Still updates his blog.

You could just pay $14.99 from GOG to get "King Arthur II" and get the patch along with it 😉 :

[EDIT] There used to be a way to request a hotfix be put back online temporarily by Microsoft. It's possibly still a feature alive and buried within their support system, but it probably got axed when they changed how the Knowledge Base worked and obsoleted several products. The last time I tried that was in 2015 and it was still working then. Anyhow, I pinged their end-user support.

Here's the old broken download link http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/9/9/ … 23-x86-INTL.exe If anyone interested.

What do you mean by newer?
Do you want to use WMP10 or 11?
Why would you ever use either?
According to the changelog for Combined Community Codec pack (10-18-2015) it supports VC-1 so may be newer.
Also ffmpeg https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=181802
You can also try https://github.com/3dyd/LAVFiltersXP
MPCHC 1.7.10 w/ 1.7.10 filters should work on XP (Haven't tested newer versions)

You da man! Thanks, darry! Always love the VOGONS teamwork on these things 😀

BTW, I verified and the MD5 checksums for both the x86 patch and the x64 patch match the ones from that 2008 blog post (https://trog.qgl.org/20081024/vc-1-codec-for- … ws-server-2003/ ), as expected 😀

Thank you. I hope it's not a terrible game. 😀

The torrent I looked at was a "repack" and it appeared as though it was part of the pirate distribution and not something included with the retail game, so I didn't even consider buying it.

It contains:

wvc1dmod.dll
9/12/2007
v10.0.0.1218

This is useful for installing just the VC-1 codec as a dependency on 64-bit systems such as Windows 2003 R2 without the need to also install a full Windows Media Player. It's dated newer than Windows Media Player 11 and doesn't require the user to install security updates in addition to replacing the system's media player to satisfy a single codec.

In this case, I was resolving a dependency for some software that required a VC-1 codec. I include notes on dependencies for software that I catalog in my collection as well as any associated updates. Including just this codec is very convenient instead of having to include all of Windows Media Player and its associated security updates-- which would be specific to the each target operating system; making things very complicated for archival.

WMFDist11-WindowsXP-X64-ENU

This is actually an older version of the Windows Media Format 11 runtime (v6.0.5489.0) which was included with the WMF 11 SDK. There is a newer wmfdist11-64.exe (v6.1.22.4).

Because these are complete runtime redistributables and not just a codec, they have since had several accompanying OS-specific security updates including KB975558, KB2834904, and KB3067903 (and possibly others).

WindowsMedia-KB942423-x64-INTL.exe is great if all you want is the VC-1 codec!

Upon closer inspection, wmfdist11-64.exe included with WMFDist11-WindowsXP-X64-ENU.exe appears to have the same archive file dates and contents. I don't know why the file itself is a different version.
