Bought a replacement CD laser assembly for my PS1 SCPH-9001 since the current one has stuttering FMV issues, an NES clone (the ones the malls sold back in 2004 before the FBI seized the assets), and a T2150CDT laptop.

Seems like it's a real minefield shopping for these, and I don't really trust any of the listings on the major sites. Where did you get yours?

eBay. I should've done more research first and find an exact one that is trusted, but there are other sites that are fishy and if retro console parts websites had those, I'd buy one in a second.

Another note is, even if it has the same model number on the listing, it doesn't mean that it's an OEM and could be a cheap clone.

Fingers crossed you have success with it. Do report back!

Also arrived today, a NIB Princeton EO710 17" CRT monitor. I splurged on this one given how rarely NIB CRTs show up these days. Hopefully it'll last the rest of my life considering how infrequently it'll be used.

Forgive my curiosity, but did you happen to scoop up the AWE64 for about $35 USD on eBay? I only ask because I had one on my watch list but it was sold. I've just been buying up motherboards so I put it on the back burner.

Same year I graduated high school, excellent time to be getting into PCs. Though my first voodoo card was a banshee a couple years later, the Diamond Monster Fusion.

Well, I think that the 486 system I keep on thinking about building is quickly becoming something inevitable. I managed to find this beauty locally for $15.

If anyone wants floppy images, I’ll need help with using soft windows on my Mac 7100to make them as I don’t have any non-Mac floppy drives.

These three things.

Unisys T3618-01 monitor... no info about it at all - I found info about almost identical T3618-00 which is supposed to be CGA/EGA. Mine works 'out of the box' with the CGA and it works with EGA Wonder 800 set to IBM RGB Color monitor in EGA modes... it didn't wanted to work with a 'true' EGA (although this card gave me some trouble in the past) so I don't know how much EGA-compatible it is. It also doesn't have any sort of mode switch. Thing has some minor cracks (one of the feet's and on the back shroud where it goes under the front plastic piece), but overall it's in nice condition, and the picture quality is excellent. It's build like a tank, it's fully shielded under the back cover and weights a ton.

This largely uninteresting Philips CM8833-II, price was decent and I got a big discount, but it's nothing compared to Unisys above...

And this PC in cool 'Adax' case (it's not Adax though). It has Batman's Revenge inside with CT2290 and SiS PCI graphics card. Case is in nice shape, needs slight retrobright though...

I got this very cool plasma-screen luggable off eBay. No obvious branding but it seems to be a Dolch clone? Has a 486DX-33 and 4MB of 30pin RAM, and a 200MB Conner hard drive with MS-DOS 5 and Windows 3.1 installed.

I heart me a nice luggable. Good score.

For the princely sum of £1.20 on eBay:

Picked up this old beast today, it’s labelled Triumph Adler, more famous for building typewriters and the Alphatronic. Had almost no listing and no Google results for the machine either so went for next to nothing.

Turned out to be a working generic 14” CRT dated 1994, this machine - it’s a 486DX 66MHz, rest of the specs unknown up to now - and a huge bag of software including some still in the shrink wrap! that I haven’t looked at properly yet.

The system looked almost immaculate inside, as though it had never been used - no dust or dirt to be found. I don’t believe it’s ever been taken apart as all the connectors still had their (I assume) factory hot glue on them.

Sadly the barrel battery is right next to the keyboard port and has corroded many traces so can’t get it to recognise a keyboard currently but will be repairing all of those in due course. Apart from yellowing on the front, it’s in decent shape - I think it’ll clean up really well and with some Retrobrite, it’s got an LED turbo display, not a bad machine.

They were a bit before my time (I started out with late Pentium I machines back in the day) so if anyone can help identify the case (or motherboard) I’d be most grateful but will be putting up more detailed pics as I get to repairing the motherboard.

Won the Disney Combo Pak (Mickey's ABCs and Disney Sound Source) with all of the trimmings.

i have 2 17 inch monitors but knowing how old the caps are and even though they are not bulging they have electrolyte so they need to be tested with a multimeter one in awhile as electrolyte itself evaporates and electrodes decay (just like batteries)
so as not to cause disaster 😀
