I've had them forever, it was hot stuff new but I don't use them for anything these days.

Also I'm using DVI on every screen I have at the moment so there's no place for them.

Reveal SC500 sound card (I think its a uncommon soundcard).

Everything in near mint condition.

Nice stuff.

Reveal is a pretty shifty brand, particularly in the way they try to hide which chipset they use. This is probably the OPTi 82c929, judging by the shape of the chip and the external Crystal codec chip. Decent enough, but the Crystal wavetable is nice, even with 1MB ROM. So, 'Video card Month' started off and I got an S3 Virge PCI, in part to have one of the "recommended" DOS video cards but also thinking on any Socket 3/5 I might be able to find in the future.
The seller was the kind of seller I could dream of: willing to sell, not triying to get rich, not caring too much about it... So I got the S3 plus an FX 5200 for U$ 10.-

A few days later I talked to a good friend of mine who said "Yeah, DO come by and pick whatever you want from the old stuff drawer, I'd be happy to see any of these finding a new life, specially with someone who cares!".

So I went there and got these... I had to control myself...

* PCI Trident - common but handy when I don't want to risk valuable cards...
* PCI CL-5434 - I've seen nice comments about it, seems better than the average Trident....
* AGP ATI Rage - I'm sure it will be handy.
* AGP FX6200 - humm, not bad at all IMHO, But for free? Then super cool!
* AGP Voodoo 3 3000 - WAIT, WHAT!? Here and now these are quite rare and this one was thrown there in a box!

I'm super happy with that, I'll consider the V3 "a loan without return date" so I don't feel I've ripped of a good friend 🤣

But "video card month" continued. Last weekend I was at my mother's house helping with some chores and saw a box, behind a box, inside the closet.
"Humm" - I thought - "that shoe box could have that old internal Zip drive from the old family PC, let's check it out"

And lo and behold, that was a box of "spare parts" I had stashed like 10? 15? years ago "in case I need to replace something urgently". And there they were, a few cards I thought I had given away when we moved houses:

- An SB Live, likely a "value" version.
- Two Matrox Milleniums that I bought second hand quite past their time, because they were dirt chip and in their heydays I loved my Mystique but was never able to afford a Millenium.
- The 12MB PCI Voodo 2 that I used back then with my beloved Mystique!!

This was huge, I was feeling so stupid about having sent to recycling or whatever those Matrox and my Voodo and suddenly I've found them and in very good shape as well.

On the local "ebay" there are only two PCI Voodoos on sale right now, for a 4 MB card (V1?) the asking price is U$100, and the 8 MB V2 version goes for a crazy U$ 300.

Funniest thing is I never set out to build any 3dfx nor AGP system, but suddenly I got TWO Voodoos and now I feel pretty much obliged to build something, and something good!

Wonderful. The 5434 and TGUI can't read it, maybe a 9680? may be quite fast in 2D, it's down to implementation. Guess you'll be using the Mystique with the V2 though.

It is likely to run fine though, if that is all that is missing. Those capacitors are only IC power decoupling capacitors. As long as you are not missing a lot of them, it will probably work ok.

I guess it will be either the Mystique or a Millennium that will power an unexpected "Real Socket 7" system, Likely along the K6-2 550 I also got recently.

I hope so, but it will take a while to find out as it turned out I don' t have a board with compatible AGP slot and I haven't seen many around.

Ah right, I confess to murdering a couple of those a few years ago for their RAM for other cards 😬

Sorta retro thrift haul, another 3.5" card reader, another USB 2.0 card, a SBLive for 21st Century noises. SB0410 or SB04100.. what do that do? Or what don't that do?

edit: Awww nuts, it's a castrated, castrated Audigy innit? I think I've got better onboard on some socket A and 754 boards. Still it'll do the wiggly electron thing up the wires for the air pushers, for stuff that hasn't got noise capability yet.

Sometimes I feel like I am the only person on earth who can't seem to stumble on a good deal on these ESS + Wavetable sound cards..

I bought a Dolch PAC 386 system for 120€ including shipping. There's probably something wrong with the LCD but at that price I couldn't say no. The rest of the computer is in great shape, I just need to figure out a solution for the LCD. Worst case, I'll go for one of those modern 10" panels from China and keep the rest of the machine stock. Of course a sound card will have to be added as well 😀

Nah... I never managed to get one since I sold it 19 years ago 🙁

A 386DX-33 PC with matching keyboard from Paradise. Suffered from.....yeah.....Varta. Didn't do much when powered on (some activity on my POST card). I cleaned the affected area with vinegar and IPA. Still some crud on the traces and had to place a bodge wire. But hey, it works so far! Keyboard works,RAM is detected.
A 486 board (need to check which) with a Cyrix DX40, a socket 5 board with a P90, some CD-ROM drives, an SB16 CT2290, an Avance Logic ALS120, two AT PSU's, a Diamond S3 Trio32 Stealth, an IBM HD, two Trident VGA cards, IBM 6x86 P166+ CPU, a Seagate ST-251 (untested) and a Spectrum ZX with joystick and joystick port adapter 😀

I saw a local listing for an ASUS CUSL2-C motherboard. It was listed as untested, so I offered it the total sum of $2, which got accepted. To my surprise it came with a Pentium III 800 Coppermine CPU and had no obvious bad caps. It actually POSTs too, despite the chipping on the CPU die. So I gave it all a good wash and scrubbing. Not a bad haul for next to nothing.

Honestly, this board has absolutely zero appeal to me due to not supporting Tualatin and not having any ISA slots.. However it was the motherboard I used between 2000-2002 with a Pentium III CPU (I can't remember the exact speed but it was a 600-800 range Coppermine; I had upgraded from a Pentium II 300 running on an ASUS P2B board). I ran it with a Voodoo 3 (Later a GeForce 2 MX, and a GeForce 2 Ti) and a Terratec DMX Xfire 1024 to play some of my most memorable PC games so it has nostalgic value for me.

If I ever find an InWin A500 case locally for cheap I will rebuild that system for sure. 😀

I know the feeling man. It's taken a while, and luck finally went my way this morning. I happened to hit my saved searches while I had my first coffee, and this gent on the other side of the world had just put up a variety of cards.

It does not have best of all worlds but it is definitely universal and well ballanced card. It has very good SBPro 2 compatibility, good OPL3, ESFM, which is very nice alternative to OPL3 and also onboard wavetable (not the top notch one, but definitely nice to have). Generally good all-in-one solution.
