Is the new sound blaster fully backwards compatible with previous versions. I want check for sure if it is backwards compatible with older versions.

The recent versions of the Sound Blaster (anything that comes in a PCI slot) are not truly compatible with the old ISA versions. AFAIK, no PCI sound card is 100% hardware compatible with the old SBs.

It shouldn't really be a problem, though. The new cards all have suitable Windows drivers and the old cards can be rather convincingly emulated by DOSBox.
