I was trying to figure out how to test a Voodoo 1 I got from eBay to see if it was working but I didn't have a known-good board to compare against. When I failed get it working with anything, I decided to take a closer look at the board...

All fixed! I poked at the pins around each quad pack and found another 30 or so joints that had broken. The pins appeared normal but a light poke and they would move. The card works great now. 😀
Nice! Those are always the first place to look when acquiring a Voodoo 1/2. Almost all of them have damage, it seems.

Good job! If you have the experience, I would also recommend a complete reflow of all joints (for the FBI/TREX chips + memory ICs), that will make the repair foolproof. 😀

It is interesting how many voodoo cards have damages like this, is it because they were handled without love when discarded?

Well, yeah. Mechanical damage requires a certain amount of force to be applied on that specific area. 😀

Yeah ofc.. but I still find it strange that voodoos were handled so roughly, I have bought many other cards but the voodoo 2 8 mb I bought had been handled so uncarefully the user must have hated the card. :-p
These cards used to be worthless. You couldn't give them away 10+ years ago.

I am ashamed to admit that I, myself, have done it. Between 2005 - 2010 I worked as an IT service engineer, and.... man, I can't even tell you how many retro parts I threw into the recycle bin without giving it a second thought. 🙁
