When I try to install Resident Evil 2 and try to change the installation location, this error message comes up. Issue exists in Windows 7 and 8.1 too, but doesn't take place in Windows 98 SE (which unfortunately doesn't have what it takes to run this game). How do I fix this issue of the installation program?

I already tried running with administrator privileges and Windows 95 compatibility but they don't help.

Have you tried the alternative installer that you can find here : https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Resident_Evil_2 ?

Oh this one works, thanks. Its a bummer I didn't look at PCGW. Meanwhile I found out the game doesn't need to be installed in order to play, it can be directly played from the CD.
