I have had some horrible graphics card artefacting in windows me but it works fine in windows xp and in games for both OS's is there a way i can fix this problem?

System:
Celeron coppermine 800mhz
ATI Powercolour 7000
Modem card
256 mb ram

Have you tried changing the screen resolution in WinME? Uninstall the graphics card driver and try another one? Does it only do it in 2D in WinME - 3D is okay, just like 2D and 3D in WXP?

3d acclerated and 2.5d games are fine but the doom logo in the escape menu has weird glitches

Can you post a screenshot or photo displays with those glitches? Which mainboard (chipset) You have?

the artifacting only occurs when I move the window from side to side. my chipset is intel mATX I810.
Images are from the artefacting, the card itself and the computer in question

I think I remember seeing similar on 98SE years ago, and it turned out some windows system file was screwed up.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

I was looking for clues trying to help me remember when I came across something saying updates to Explorer snuck in with IE updates require a newer directX version and dx 7 or 8 fixed it. Not sure if that was my issue or something else.

the card still artefacts when i installed dirctx9.0c (it had directx 9.0b included)
