Yes, I knew nVidia is not perfect, but one of the reasons I stick with nVidia is because I always have the option to maintain the correct aspect ratio using GPU scaling, regardless of OS and/or GPU model we're using.

At least nVidia still gives you this.

Radeon is a much different story, it is almost like AMD has deliberately removed GPU scaling from modern drivers, basically forcing 4:3 games to be stretched across the screen (instead of black bars), and that's the reason I've stopped using Radeon GPUs since then.

But that's Windows XP. How about Windows 7? I'm actually interested to use a Radeon GPU on my next retro build (which will use Windows 7), but will GPU scaling be available on Radeon Win7 drivers? Could Radeon owners please share their experience?

Yes.

AMD Settings > the cog icon > Display :
GPU Scaling, On/off
Scaling Mode (Preserve aspect ratio, Full panel, Center)
Integer Scaling, On/off
