Whats up guys, purchased Glidos and had the problem where I couldn't save without crashing, so I switched on VDos32 and it was great. No music, but I can live without that. 🙁

So I've been playing for a week or so; got to the Colleseum level 😁

Anyway I got up today and decided to play for a while and when I start Glidos, it starts VDos, and then VDos just closes, my CD never starts spinning, nothing....it just opens for a couple seconds, then closes. I've tried re-downloading VDos, as well as re-installing Glidos and nothing seems to help.

I didn't update/change/reconfigure my PC in anyway either.

Is this a known issue, is there a fix?

Thanks,
ryan

No. Never heard of that one before. (The music, by the way, you can get by downloading the audiopack from the Glidos web site.)

When you say closes, do you mean the main dialog disappears? Have you retried without VDos32?

Hmmm...I'll have to remember that about the music.

Yes the VDos dialog dissapears, while the Glidos dialog stays.

I have since played it without VDos, and I saved twice with no crashes, but as I recal is was about once every 5 saves that it crashed; so we'll have to see...

What about if you just double-click the VDos32.exe in C:\Program Files\Glidos?

Yeah that seems to do the same thing, VDos closes a second after I open tomb.exe.

The wierdest part for me is that I didn't change anything in my PC, I played it in the morning and now this happens a couple hours later... 😢

Here' a screencap of the problem...not sure what it would solve but at least you can see it happening:

That's really strange. I have no idea what's going on. Here's a version of VDos32 with some tracing activated. There's some small chance it will give us a little more information. When it completes the running of a game it should open a dialog window for saving a log file. It may just do nothing. Worth a try.

Glidos, I tried that executable and nothing changed; same thing happened, and I don't see any log files or anything...

I played abit today with Glidos and I did encounter the save-crash in the Cistern Level.

I'm using TombEdit as a fallback, as I can just preload a new save file with the items I need, but it always starts out at the beginning of the level; is there any way or another app that could somehow position me elsewhere in the level?

I saw TR posEditor by Paul Walton, but that just seems to move her a couple feet to the left/right and doesn't seem to be of any help if I wanted her to be positioned in the middle of the main Cistern Room or something.

Thanks Glidos, any additional research/help is greatly appreciated!

Ryan

Did you try reinstalling TR? That's the most likely place for there to be a change. Best to download the archive from the Glidos web site. Don't lose your save games of course.

I would like to try to remove every component that I installed for Tomb Raider so I can start fresh; which in theory should fix the problem but is ther a way to "un-install" Glidos and TombRaider or is it merely deleting the folders that will do so?

I don't see either of them in my Add or Remove Programs window. I'm concerned that there might be a random file somewhere that's not being removed.

That's right, just delete the folders, but keep your savegames.

UPDATE! 😲

I deleted all the folders (kept the saves), uninstalled VDM sound, and restarted my computer to make sure I was starting fresh.

I did the classic install process, launched Glidos and VDos32 loaded up the first time!

I had tried to delete Glidos/TR before with no luck so I really think it may have had something to do with VDM Sound; unless restarting my computer had something to do with it, but I doubt it.

Thanks again for all the help Glidos, I truly appreciate...now back to my quest of greatness. 😉

Woohoo! 😁

How weird! But good news. It shouldn't really be anything to do with VDMSound because VDos32 doesn't use it.

If I'd have had my wits about me, I'd have asked you to keep a copy of your TR installation and send it to me. I might have been able to find out what was happening. Still, I'm just glad to hear its working now.
