One-off £130 for student/home use of the traditional, installed 'Office' applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint only).
£60/year for personal use of Office 365.
£80/year for family license pack for Office 365.Obviously costs will vary slightly per geographic region.
Unless you are a member of an academic institution or a registered student on a college/university course that qualifies for MS Imagine/Dreamspark (or whatever they rebrand it to this year), and then you get a free license to use it, as well as a free copy of Windows, Visual Studio etc, for as long as you remain at that institution (either employment or for your studies). There are some restrictions on what titles you can access if you are not in a STEM subject.
It's certainly not free.
Oh, I think it was FREE on the iPad a while back.
I don't think it ever was.
The only Office package included for free with Macs is Apple's own iWorks.
