The proper way to launch the game is synd.bat , not via any of the direct executables (original version, I don't have the GoG version).

Thank you, I'll try this. I was running it using the CD, not Dosbox. I could get it to run with music, but no sound.

Do You have syndicat folder inside the game folder, and main.exe file inside this folder?

The install folder on C: only has synd.inf and some save folders. I'll see if I can move the syndicat folder from the CD.

Hello all,
Just installed a fresh win98se on a pentium 4 2.4ghz 512MB RAM. The game will hang after typing synd.bat even in "pure" dos mode.
Any idea on how to fix this?

I've managed to make it work on both Windows XP and Windows 98 SE (DOS mode).

1. I've downloaded dos4gw 2.01a from http://syndicate.lubiki.pl/synd/html/synd_patches.php
2. I've downloaded from the same site the Miles Sound System Protected Mode Drivers and copied SBPRO drivers into synd\data directory (renaming etc.)
3. Set up audio with IRQ DMA and BASE as needed in synd.bat file
4. EXTRA for WIN98: I've created a c:\windows\dosstart.bat which calls mouse.com (downloaded from https://www.bootdisk.com/readme.htm)

VOILA. It works by simply double clicking 'synd.bat' file in any of the 2 OS.

Hope this will help any fan out there.
