Well...I shouldn't have said that, but if the VESA support is for the wrong graphics card, it could cause major problems with SVGA games, as either the information is written to the wrong I/O port, or the wrong information is being written. If this is the case, it would affect all or nearly all SVGA programs but is unlikely to affect standard VGA programs.

Hmm. I don't think I have many games that use SVGA. Tomb Raider comes to mind and last I checked that was fine. Only Broken Sword has had this particular problem so far. How can I find out if VESA support is for the wrong card? How can I investigate further?

Since one SVGA program works properly, it's probably neither the card nor the VESA driver. This is pretty much past my knowledge, so I can't help you further. Sorry! I have a somewhat similar problem, though: my Win98SE tower's sound doesn't work in DOS mode at all. 🙁 No diagnostic tool sees it, either.

Okay, no worries. Thanks for trying to help though.

Regarding your sound - I've recently had to sort out sound within DOS. Is it the onboard sound you're trying to get working or a sound card?

What's the device? A Creative Sound Blaster? Something like a SBPCI 128? Do you have DOS drivers to install for it?

The Windows system control panel says it's a SoundMax Integrated Audio card, and the listed resources are way out of DOS's range. 🙁 I have to do this from memory, as Windows is not working properly.

Hmm. I'm not sure then. Sorry. Can't say I've heard of SoundMax. And way out of DOS's range? In what way? Have you not been able to install any Windows-based drivers?

The system has Windows drivers but not DOS ones. And what I mean by "out of range" is beyond where DOS can access them.
