That honestly doesn't look like it would be a bad gaming experience to be honest. It's quite impressive the level of performance you squeezed out of that platform

Thanks! 😀

It's not too bad at all, but pushing it any further won't make for an enjoyable experience!

I'm actually quite amazed that this game runs on this machine at all, but do admit that I would have been disappointed if it didn't!

Usually when a system starts to battle, you start to pick it up artefacts in the sound card's performance during gameplay, but the sound's good here!

So I'd call this experiment successful thus far!

The real cherry on the top would be to get Quake II RTX up running in Vulcan!!! (Ray tracing on a P4 Xeon would be something to talk about!!!)

That would be awesome to play Quake 2 RTX. Have you tried it yet

This video's the response to a question concerning the effect of Hyper-threading on the Dual P4 Xeon's performance.

I've finally purchased an RTX 3090ti to go into this system!

The aim of this experiment is to see if I can get Quake 2 RTX running on a Pentium 4 system under Vulcan!

The most recent operating Windows Operating System that you can install on a Pentium 4 is Windows 7, and the most modern RTX card that has a Windows 7 driver is the RTX 3090ti
The RTX 3090ti is the only card in the RTX 3000 series which has a Windows 7 driver, hence my options here were pretty limited if I wanted to get this machine to its absolute maximum spec!

The reason I've chosen this card is because I needed the RTX 3090ti to be a two-slot card and not the standard three-slot design due to space constraints.

The things I do in the name of experimentation!

That is simply incorrect.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

I stand corrected then!

They released this driver last year which supports the whole range, but when I looked a few years back it seemed that only the 3090ti was supported. (I hadn't looked since then)

It wouldn't make any sense to use a lesser RTX 3000 series card in this build anyway! (If you're going crazy, you might as well go all the way!)

Even though these cards are extremely bottlenecked by a system such as this net burst one, they still scale!

If the RTX 3090ti gives me four times the performance of the 8800 GTX in this system, I'll be impressed! The GTX TITAN currently gives me three times the maximum theoretical performance of the 8800 GTX in this system, which is impressive within itself! (It's insanity, but it's impressive none the less!)

Personally, I went with RTX 3080 Ti FE as my go-to Win7 card to get. Extra flexibility from 2 slot sized cooler is just too good to pass on.
I highly doubt there is any performance difference between RTX 3090 Ti and RTX 3080 Ti on Netburst class hardware 😀
(while price for me at this time is +50% for 3090 Ti vs. 3080 Ti)
