Ok, I finally got around to testing my board. When I plug in a 9V center ground power supply, I simply get a blinking red LED after some seconds. Is that some kind of failure mode? No activity when I move the mouse...

https://youtu.be/Y0_UWAH6z7I

The PSU is a Roland 9V 2A, so plenty of juice available... Or does it actually need the 12V from the ATX power supply? Avrdude said everything flashed just fine...

Got it working thanks to a hint from matze:

avrdude -c usbasp -p t2313 -U lfuse:w:0xfd:m -U hfuse:w:0xdf:m -U efuse:w:0xfe:m
avrdude -c usbasp -p t2313 -U flash:w:ps2adapter-noboot-tiny2313.hex

Probably I flashed the firmware wrongly. Now I will test the adapters on the machine. Will post a video later...

hi matze, I'm from germany, too.
how can I buy one of your kits?
I'm also interested in buying the other things you made, if it's possible!

Hi,

Sorry to everyone where i not replied.
i had much work todo in the past months..

But i'm happy to announce Firmware 1.1 is on the Road.
Felmar Loyd from dosreloaded.de has taken much effort to Create a New More KVM Friendly Version.

It now features also 19200 Baud Turbo Mode with modified ctmouse and intellimouse drivers (3.x)

Also Wheelmouse Support is now working.
That means you can use ctmouse api to scroll in some dos applications who use it.
For example "Star Commander".

Windows 9x Support remains untested.
i hope i will have time soon 😀
its combatible with all Hardware Versions.

Hardware is updated to use MiniUSB Power Supply.
Few parts omitted and will be fully SMD.

Great news! Thanks Felmar+Matze79 for the efforts.
The adapter has proven to be a very useful addition to my 486.
Lacking a programming device for the Atmel, I don't know how to flash new Firmware though.

The programmers can be had for very small money on ebay. I think you can program them with other devices as well. E.g. with a Raspberry Pi: https://www.instructables.com/id/Programming- … m-Raspberry-Pi/

I can borrow the RobotDyn in the photo. Which has an USB interface. Maybe that will allow for firmware flashing an ATTiny? Edit: strongly doubt it.
Either way I will wait it out until the Firmware is out and the first reports of it are in.

Hi,

here are the Files:

The attachment PS2-Adapter V 1.1.zip is no longer available

it works on all hardware revisions.
Be sure to keep fuse bits 😀 first versions use internal oscilator and maybe you can't use the high speed mode reliable without External Crystal.
But all later one's should work fine.

Sorry but README is still German.
Had no Time for Translation.

- Now Supports Wheelmouse - in DOS and hopefully 9x.
- High Speed MODE 19200 Baud - with modified Mouse Drivers only (no 9x driver yet / 2k / XP)
- For NT, maybe ReactOS Driver can be modified.
- You can choose Mouse Protocol if you have DIP Switch, with DIP Switch or either with SW Utility included.
- hopefully better KVM Support.

But not all Versions of the Converter feature a Software Bootloader. And now we require a bit more space in flash.. 😉
So i would recommend use a ISP Programmer to Upgrade or wire ISP to LPT Port and Program the Hexfile this Way maybe with PonyProg.
A Programmer can be made very simple from a DB25 COM Cable.
if i get some time i show you how todo it 😀 i think tomorrow i can do this.

Thanks

Matthias

I noticed today my adapter has stopped working. The two adapter LEDs don't come up at all, but the mouse LED seems to get power. Tried different Motherboards and Mice, but no luck. Maybe a firmware reflash will help...

You can easily make a Cable for Upgrade from a RS232 Com2 Cable (MultiIO)

The attachment DSC_0424.JPG is no longer available
The attachment DSC_0425.JPG is no longer available
The attachment FGPHRI5I3TH9DWY.LARGE.jpg is no longer available

Instruction:
https://www.instructables.com/id/Simplest-AVR … ort-programmer/

Choose ATTINY2313 and just load PS2 Adapter Hex File from the ZIP File.
Choose your LPT Printer Port.
Press Flash 😀

Warning, i use no resistors! so don't short circuit anything 😉

Flash Tool:

The attachment FWT1201I3TH9DY2.rar is no longer available

EDIT:
The Adapter needs to be powered for programming!

Warning: The Software does not support Versions with ATTiny4313.. need to check for one that does 😀
EDIT: ATTINY4313 can added to the Software.. i`m patching ini file, need to test values (maybe i have a tiny4313 for testing somewhere)

Add this to the ATPROG.INI File of the Flash Tool.:
ATTINY4313 1E920D 4K 32 3:0 64 9:4 256
Untested!

Maybe i should make a clean thread.

EDIT: If you have Tiny4313 Version, you can use Bootloader for Updating Firmware.
Use TinySafeBoot and load hex on your MCU trough RS232.
TinySafeBoot is found here:
http://jtxp.org/tech/tsb.zip

is it possible with this converter? also is it possible to buy it assembled?
thanks.

I tried to flash the ATTiny 4313-PU with my Wellon VP-390 programmer. The Wellon has an option for the 4313. It claims it programmed the *.hex file you provided, and I am able to read back the file from the ATTiny, but when I go to use the converter, the DOS mouse driver is no longer able to find a mouse. When I run ps2maset.exe /g, it hangs with the following screen:

The attachment Hangs.jpg is no longer available

I have also tried attaching the EXT OSC to the ATtiny 4313 while programming it.

The attachment Wellon_Programmer_with_ext_osc.jpg is no longer available

So something is buggered up. I tried to follow your "Simplest AVR Parallel Port Programmer" tutorial, but I am confused about a) which SPI pin is pin 1, my red cicle or blue circle (see image here:). I also noticed that the MCU chip on your breadboard is a lot larger than what I have. And what is that smashed silver can for? I assume its the crystal, but then you said we don't need it.

The attachment SPI_Pins.jpg is no longer available

and b) whether this will work with the 4313. You mentioned untested, but would update the ini file. When I download the FWT1201I3TH9DY2.rar and check the ini file, I see 4313 still absent. Did you determine if 4313 will work or not?

I then read further down in your post that if you have 4313, "you can use Bootloader for Updating Firmware" and to use tsb.zip. But for my case, is the bootloader still working correctly for this to work?
