Yes the athlon 64 4000+ socket 939 is the largest single core and very close to the athlon 64 FX-55 in 2004 the prices were also very close so not surprising despite everything the 4000+ was sold much more.
For my 2004 setup I have a single FX-55 and for the rest a 4000+ as well.

But this research work is also what I really like about our old machines.

The 4000 is also a beast in many ways, it was a direct contender with the P4 EE and in games the athlon won 90% of the times, it's the only CPU capable to run vampire bloodlines at 30+ fps in every location, something bordering on impossible for any period correct CPU at the time.

Very very interesting information.
I personally have never played this game, it's a bit the goal of creating my dream machines in fact.
The only thing I'm missing is a second 6800 Ultra for SLI and I could test games from 2004.
Yes, Pentiums at the time were completely on the street in terms of performance in video games compared to AMDs.

I'm missing a gf 6800 for sli too, I just got a sli Mobo for the 4000+ AMD yes bloodlines was so badly optimized that no system was able to make it run at a stable frame rate, it always dropped to 25 or even 21 fps, try it yourself, it's the best test for a 2004 dream machine.
