Quite a few of the leading names in motherboards issued 440BX boards with socket 370. So....

The limit is socket 370 board price, not really the differential. Many people will buy a slot 1 440BX board with a cheap PII 333-400 as there are plenty of those around and find out they can plug in a much better CPU if they get that damn slotket. At that point they have the choice of buying a new socket 370 board or a slotket. Slotkets have a much lower chance of failure than a new board. If the current board is stable and name brand, they may prefer a slotket over a new generic socket 370 board with VIA chipset. They will have to pay premium price for slotket as there are no good alternatives.

it doesnt seem to be in that guide but does look similar to the one marked as "AA370P (marketed as Matrix & Evercool) 370CPU rev 1.0 FCPGA Coppermine / 133 / auto voltage / no voltage clamp " - however a few others look similar too and are 100MHz only.

Are there any 'telltale' things to look for to tell if a slocket is fcpga or pga and if is 133Mhz vs 100mhz capable?

If we take 0036 on the PCB as meaning a 36th week of 2000 date, then it's late enough to know about coppermine and official 133 bus CPUs, but a year too early for Tualatin.

Yes, the date is likely a safe indication.

One version that I came across with an earlier date had an 'E' sticker on the rear.

Pretty much any slocket can be modified for both CuMina and Tualatin, just follow instructions that are made by people who really know this. There are so many wrong instructions around (where for example is said to connect to VTTPWRGD which is total BS) and this might work on some slocket/mb combo but is not actually done right and will have much higher possibility to not work.

it ALWAYS worked, modified tens of plain jane PPGA slockets for Tualations for friends and for sale etc.

Thanks all -- used this slocket and now 133MHz FSB is stable and all ram tests now pass.
Does seem it was all due to the other slockets not being able to operate at 133MHz
