PCX1 or PCX2 ? I can check that on my machine. K6-3-450 with PCX1 if you like.

Yes please, would love to compare. This is a Matrox m3D so a PCX2. Should still be interesting either way.
So this is interesting. When I first tried the m3D with the onboard ATI Rage II I was getting single digit FPS with the few things I tried. I installed a Matrox Mystique and was getting playable frame rates. Decided to pull the Mystique this morning and try it with onboard graphics again and all of a sudden it’s working and working better than the Mystique. Hitting 32.6fps in GLQuake now, up from 26. I wish I knew what changed 🤣.
32fps sounds good....going to test my two machines....

I get between 26 fps - 43 fps.
K6-3 450 DX5 RageIIc Onboard + PCX 1
33fps @ 640x480
43fps @ 512x384
P3 500 DX6 RageIIproLT Onboard + PCX 2
26fps @ 640x480
33fps @ 512x384
Hope that helps.

Thank you, looks like I’m right on the mark. My k6-3 is running at 75Mhz FSB so that might explain any discrepancy. Curious why the Mystique was so much slower but not too worried about it. Have you tried 24-bit color? Looks quite a bit better if your connected to an LCD.
I’m hitting 43fps as well at 512x384x16.
On Voodoo1 and PCX1/2 I always use 512x384 for Quake1/2,Hexen2, etc. 😉

Hell yah, I’ll sacrifice some resolution for an FPS gain any day.
Is there a way to force Mechwarrior 2 to 24-Bit color to reduce dithering?
Anyone using any cooling on their cards, these things get hot!
passive heatsinks

Just wanted to share a couple photos of Unreal to be sure I’m setup correctly. Is this how it should be rendering? Not sure how to describe it besides the lighting or shading not evenly applied creating a block effect.
No that looks different on my machine! I have to take a picture. I think you should go for vertex lightning on PCX1/2 and I use the early versions because later ones broke compatibility on powervr.

How can I force vertex lighting or 24-bit color with Unreal?
Advanced settings. VertexLight ON. Never checked 24Bit color.

Thank you! This looks 10x better! Still some minor rendering issues but much easier to ignore now. Perhaps I should try the 221 patch?
you're welcome 😀
I am playing on PCX1 so mine has no bilinear filtering 😀 As usual, I am playing at 512x384.

But I have the shiny surfaces "true" I think. I see the reflections on mirrored grounds.

i'd use quiet modern 120mm fan, might be hard to do if you're running this in an AT case though.
as for how the game should look, refer to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GT0OILijFfo
IIRC they deprecated the SGL renderer in later unreal patches and you'd have to mess with kernelex to get it working again.
My Unreal version is from 05/1998, seems to be very outdated, but it works good on SGL
