I'm using the DDraw Fix, created by Aqrit, to fix slowdowns in PST on my Windows XP, GTX 580 machine. According to Aqrit here:
http://www.shsforums.net/topic/48732-ddraw-fi … ownsstuttering/
it is noted that, "pst-drawfix has been reported to introduce minor flashes/glitches when casting spells".

I'm not far enough in the game to experiment with the spells but I was curious, is this reported for the latest DDraw Fix (ie-ddrawfix) or just the older version (pst-drawfix)? Are graphical issues with spells common when using the DDraw Fix? Are there any other reported problems with using this fix?

The only issue that I've encountered so far is slowdown in certain areas, which the DDraw Fix fixes perfectly. I just don't want to sink hours into this game only to discover that certain spells don't display properly.

Thanks

It's been a while since I tested this, but from what I recall, you could fix Torment's graphical issues by turning off the Hardware Acceleration of your GPU using the relevant slider. No third-party tools were needed, and everything worked fine.

The process is described here on the PC Gaming Wiki.

PC#1: Pentium MMX 166 / Soyo SY-5BT / S3 Trio64V+ / Voodoo1 / YMF719 / AWE64 Gold / SC-155
PC#2: AthlonXP 2100+ / ECS K7VTA3 / Voodoo3 / Audigy2 / Vortex2
PC#3: Core 2 Duo E8600 / Foxconn P35AX-S / X800 / Audigy2 ZS

Thanks for the input, Joseph! I tested the game with hardware acceleration turned off completely and it results in worse performance and mouse cursor trails. I also tried simply disabling DirectDraw via DxDiag, which completely solved the performance issue, but still introduced cursor trailing in the main menu and over the HUD during gameplay.

So far, the DDraw Fix seems to be the solution, but I'd still be interested in hearing others' experience with it. Fingers crossed I don't encounter any rendering issues with spell effects.
