Hello!!

I am trying to get one of my childhood favorite computer games to work on my old Windows XP laptop. I have the 14 .bin files and the singular .cue file, and was able to somewhat get the CD to function by mounting the first /bin file to my Virtual Clonedrive (E:). For some reason, the Tuneland game managed to install and runs fine with audio and everything, but with "Ecco", the game installs halfway before giving me the following warning:

"No DirectX capability. (-1)
Ecco runs better and has extra video modes for video cards that support DirectX. Please contact your video card manufacturer."

It then claims to have installed successfully, showing me the game's .EXE icon. When I run it, I am met with the game's intro animation and title screen, and can then choose "Game" > "Go" from the menu.

I then get the following message: "CD play functions not available, unable to play music." But according to my PC's audio hardware specs, both the external CD-ROM drive I am using, as well as Virtual Clonedrive, have CD audio enabled. It allows me to play the game without the music, but I would really like to figure out how to get the full experience.

My memory of playing it originally is very spotty. I would have played it in the early 2000s, but can't remember if it would have been in a Win95/98 environment or not, which was initially my thought as to what must be the problem. Compatibility mode does not help, though. Any thoughts as to what else I might try to get Ecco running in all of its aural glory?

For the CD audio, you may need to use inmm or dxwnd.

Edit: follow feda's suggestions first

You need to mount the cue file, not the bins. By mounting the first bin, you have only mounted the data track. The cue file, if it's correct, contains the needed information for all tracks.

Had a similar issue mounting and getting Sonic R to run with music (I know ...why?), sound FX were fine, I think it had a problem with the .cue file. Anyway, IIRC, I tried converting to ISO, and then rather than mess around, I managed to get it to burn to CD, the game and the CD based music tracks then all played fine.
Could try that, or I think there's several versions of that Packard Bell CD-ROM I remember seeing on the archive. Good luck
