Athlon 64 3700+ Venice core and bad temps

When the A64 was using the stock cooler on the Asus A8N-E FM/S the idle temp was 59C that made me worried but i also thought "Meh it's stock, that must be the issue" so i went and bought a prism wraith, it fits perfectly and bought the temps to 52 idle.

The only problem? apparently a good cooler should keep the cpu at 36\38 idle , what the hell is going on? i have 2 intake 1 exhaust, everything has been optimized, the CPU cooler is tepid at best but there's good pressure after checking the paste, i even updated the BIOS for mac compatibility with the CPU in question.

Broken sensor? room temps are 30C

It's a common problem with early Athlon 64. There's a 20+ years old thermal paste under the IHS which needs to be replaced.

Oh boy, that's gonna be a fun new experiment for me.

I had the same issue with a Socket 754 3200+ a few years ago, albeit even worse as it'd just shoot up to thermal throttling point even sitting in the BIOS. I managed to kill it completely during the process of delidding it using a razor blade, so be smarter and more careful than me.

Ok this is ridiculous, delidded, sanded the plastic bracket for more pressure, added paste.

I really hope it's because of lacklustre pressure, otherwise it makes no damn sense.

Yeah, kinda sucks.

No IHS and heatsink directly on core?

Btw, do you have a 2nd board to test it on?

Nope, i tested another cooler, stock one, it gets really warm and i added an arctic fan at max speed, still around 52\53 i'm starting to believe this mobo can't even go lower than 50 for the readings, it makes no sense, i took out the railing keeping the cooler in place on the bracket, i got max pressure on the prism, still 53.
There's only 2 options, the cpu is defective in some way or the mobo is.

I have been reading on athlon64 for a week now, it seems a matter of luck of the draw, if it works it works if it doesn't then you can do nothing about it, i think it's overvolting and sadly given the lack of options with the mobo i can't really change the voltage.

Can you post a link to your mobo model? 50°C idle is way out of scale. 42/3 maybe, not 10+° more for sure.

I used to get 35/7°C on a 3700, IIRC. While memtesting I got up to 44 last time I used it.

Lack of active Cool&Quiet may also affect this. Many boards have it disabled by default.

What happens if you lower the RAM frequency? Can you lower RAM V+?

Strange, the manual gives options.
Maybe go to a previous version?

Since I don't trust this Mobo anymore I bought this https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/foxconn-c51gm03a1
It was dirty cheap and it's an unlocked bios.

fingers crossed
