Hi,
recently I’ve tried to find some information about but not much available, so please let me share my experience.
My goal:
I want some cheap solution to be able to record some footage from my old graphic card with VGA output. I want to use also under DOS, to basic VGA modes and text mode are important.
Solution:
I’ve found some very cheap VGA to HDMI adapters on AliExpress. There are very cheap, so I’ve tried:

1) Full HD 1080P VGA to HDMI-compatible Converter Adapter Cable With Audio Output VGA HD Adapter for PC laptop to HDTV Projector
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002524532 … .7e021802qOr5rv
The description was not very good, but I like the design – short cable, no need for cable or no heavy load to graphic card connector, easy to swap.
Unfortunately, this one does not support text mode at all. It has also some problems with VGA modes but I haven’t investigated very deeply, text mode is essential for my intended use-case.

2) VGA Male to HDMI-compatible Female Converter with Audio Cables 480P/720P/1080P for PS3/4 HDTV Monitor Projector PC Laptop TV-Box
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002173117 … .7e021802qOr5rv
This one was much more promising, there is better description and there are mentioned supported modes, including:

... 720x400@70Hz, ...

So, text mode should be fine. I’ve tried and really, text mode works. I’ve run Checkit 3.0 text and graphic test. Everything has been shown, so I would say – basic VGA is supported well. Tested on Radeon Rage 128 pro AGP. I’ve tried on HDMI display and HDMI-USB grabber.
But there is one common issue – screen is shown but slightly shifted to the right. And there is no way to manually correct.

So now I’m able to get some forage, only problem is unpredictable screen shifting which can vary based on graphic card and graphic mode with no way to manually correct…

Please share your experience, what do you use?
