I agree that that is a crazy price, especially when it's common and missing parts
... but as a general rule, you really can't judge the value of any specific bit
of old technology to some people!
I spent years collecting, and sometimes buying very old computer systems (see
"Daves Old Computers") ... while most of the modern world seems to think that
any tech. that'a already shipping is obsolete. you do run into cases where some
people value it (sometimes quite a bit).
I can't tell you how many times I've been contacted by someone who wanted
something I have on the above site. Sometimes offering a substantial price.
There are no "set values" for old tech. What it comes down to is:
- How rare was it?
- Does the buyer "need it"? (sometimes you have a company with a not easily
replaceable software package - sometimes old from companies no longer in
business, sometimes written by someone no longer around) -- when that system
runs on a specific "old computer" and it dies, they can be desperate to replace
it!
- Does the buyer have a strong sentimental attachment to that system?
In the case of computers, some people have strong memories of their "first
computer" and want to recreate the experiences of their "early years".
I don't these would be nearly as much factors with cards, but you never know..
