Hello, I could not find a dedicated introduction thread. Some searching reveals posting your own thread to potentially be the method.
I grew up in the 80's with Apple II's in the school classrooms which was my first exposure to microcomputers. I knew a few kids that had gaming consoles in my community, but I do not remember any home PC's back in the early/mid 80's that we had access to. I do not even remember seeing a Commodore 64. My life changed when my dad brought home a Tandy 1000 TL/2 from Radio Shack in the late 80's. From that point on, I was a DOS kid and gaming enthusiast that would be constructing my own PC within a few years. I still have the Tandy 1000 which is a treasure that I maintain. My ongoing interest in the hobby may be similar to many here that are looking to revisit past experiences with proper hardware and different sound cards/synths. Also, I am looking for demo and gaming experiences that I may have missed back in the day due to either lack of exposure or possibly just cost. I was also not allowed to have a modem at that time. I remember many long car rides with my family on trips around the US where I would read the latest computer gaming magazine cover to cover multiple times hoping that I could find some of the games shown in the mags or even have the money to buy a game. I grew up in a small town in the middle of nowhere where getting to a store that sold quality games was often a rare event. Some of my fondest memories are going on family vacation during the summer and finally getting to visit a store in a mall like a Software Etc. or Babbages that had a large selection of games. I have specific memories of buying a Sierra adventure game on these family trips like QFG2 and SQ4 and then more long hours of reading the box and instruction manual over and over on the ride back home. Good times.
I have been lurking and reading for a while here and have found a lot of very helpful content. Thank you.
