Hello,

I installed the game, and it won't go past the loading screen. I found on several old pages, that there is a 1.2.x patch, that allows the game to use DirectX instead of Glide only. However all links to the patches are dead. 😒
I also read, that installing the DEMO Version of GP Legends and copying the exe over into the full game directory should work. But the page with the demo doesn't exist either.

Does someone know a working link to get the patch?
Has someone gotten GP Legends to run on Windows XP?

My System:
MSI K7N2 Delta
AMD Athlon XP 3200+ Barton
1 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT 128 MB RAM
SB Audigy 1
Windows XP SP2

here's a very good site with the collection of all the patches:

http://patches.dlh.net

try patching it up and see if it works then.

(darn, HunterZ beat me to it 😜)

What a *great* game!

I'm pretty bad (worse than that in fact) but it's a real hoot to scream around the track in baths with wheels (well they handle as well as that would probably!).

GPL was a real P.I.A. on 2K/XP but the solutions are available.

1st of, go to http://trackdb.d2g.com/all-in-one.asp and grab a user provided 'all-in-one' patch - just choose your correct language.
Install GPL then the all-in-one patch.
For the GPL folder, check the the 'For fast searching, allow Indexing Service to index this folder' option. Right click on the GPL folder, properties, advanced.

Although you may think otherwise, you do not need this setting to be set on the drive iteself or the service running in fact! If you don't set the indexing option, you'll get a crash to desktop soon after the game starts.

I think the all-in-one patch provides OpenGL and D3D. Select whatever render you feels is better (subjective choice most of the time). GPL also runs at a capped 36FPS (Alt-F to show rate in game). You shouldn't allow it to drop below this (would only happen on recent hardware if you've installed something like Monaco Rocks II or other high definition graphic add-ons).

Happy racing!
