Hello VOGONS!

I own quite an interesting laptop. It's an HP Pavilion zd8000 from 2005, it has a Radeon Mobility X600 256MB video card, a 3.4GHz Pentium 4 650 (yes, this thing is indeed based on early LGA775), 2.5GB of RAM, a 500GB SSD, and what would have been a nice multiboot setup. All on the Intel 915P chipset powered by an unfortunately horrendous Phoenix cME NoteBIOS firmware. I wanted to set up Windows 98SE/Me, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and maybe some version of linux (that has good support for hardware acceleration on these older radeons) on the drive. Just a slight problem though! I have issues with setting up Windows 98/Me.

-The ATI Mobility Radeon X600 doesn't have proper drivers for 9x it seems, and inf modding the 6.2 catalyst drivers doesn't work.
-USB works, but hot-plugging devices doesn't. I have to restart the computer and leave a USB stick plugged in during bootup which can be a bit of an issue, it also detects the USB stick as another hard drive.
-When installing Windows Me from the original OEM CD-ROM, the computer will crash on plug-and-play enumeration. I've actually had this happen on other HP laptops from the early 2000s which is still quite a shame. BSOD's error code is 0E:0028:FF006A39. While I could do setup /p i on here, I would really like to get ACPI working on this laptop properly s0 it will properly communicate with all the hardware.
-I am not sure what the absolute latest Atheros drivers are for Windows 98/Me. I do have a whitelist-free BIOS on here so I did install a (probably too recent for 9x) 802.11n Atheros AR5008X wireless card, that actually works great for this machine. I'd just like to know when the last Atheros wireless drivers were made and where I could find them so as to try getting this card to work, which may not actually happen.
-IRQ Steering doesn't work right. If I disable it, some issues go away but then others pop up like my video drivers having a resource conflict with... my video card. I've tried different methods for it, no dice. Not sure how I can fix this.
-Conexant AC-Link audio doesn't seem to have real drivers most of the time. It works on 98SE but not on Me.

I used the Win98QI ISO from oerg866 and also made my own Windows Me QI ISO with UMECU105 and 9XCUP preinstalled (with setup /p i). Has anyone else tried to get Windows 9x working on a zd8000 (also applies to HP Compaq nx9600 and Presario X6000) or a similar laptop like the Aspire 1800? Thanks in advance.

Forgot to mention I also tried patcher9x and that didn't fix it, though it's not exactly new enough to need such a patch. I'm just not sure this machine can actually run 9x properly sadly but I know it might just be possible.

What exactly did you do to get the Conexant audio to work in win98? Can’t seem to find any drivers that could work.
