I'm trying to install windows xp on to a dell m6700.
I keep having problems trying to get xp installed. Using easy2boot I get through all the norma steps but once I get to step 2 the windows xp loading logo pops up, it loads for 2-3 seconds then the screen goes black ( screen backlight is working)
HDD light flashes but nothing seems to be actually happening that I can tell.

So far I've tried:
HDD ( 2 different ones)
Ssd ( 2 different ones)
Changing bios settings from raid, to achi and ide.
I tried disabling all SATA ports except one
Disabled all com ports or anything not useful during os install.

Current bios is a20

Any thoughts or ideas why I can't get xp installed/screen going black

You probably need to set bios to AHCI and slipstream the Intel AHCI F6 XP "7 series" floppy drivers into the XP CD.

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Ahci war enabled. Does easy2boot not have driver's?
Because it sees the hard drives

I get in to the xp install menu, select the hard drive, it installs, computer restarts, back to easy2boot, part 2, Windows XP logo shows and is loading, then black screen

Try enabling the "Disable automatic restart on system failure" to see the problem was a BSOD issue or not.

If you get a 0x7B BSOD then that means your AHCI driver isn't installed correctly. In some cases WinSetupFromUSB works better than E2B for me, so try that just in case.

I actually just tried winsetupfromusb and had the exact same outcome problem.
But, I did get an actual blue screen with ox7B error, I cannot replicate it.

So if e2b and winsetupfromusb are not installing drivers correctly, is slip streaming the raid drivers from Dell the only way on a CD?

I'm surprised if it is the fact, that e2b and win setup are both failing with drivers.

Don’t know if it helps but does your bios have a install OS enable/disable toggle
One of my dells has this function.
Also see if you can get one of the dell recovery disc isos.

Your Dell m6700 was designed for Win7 or Win8 according to the spec sheet and no easy2boot does not have drivers, it is only a way to boot an OS image from things like USB thumb drive and there are many.
XP does not have built-in drivers for a system that new, not HD controller or chipset or video. Did you research finding any XP drivers for its parts, you will need them even if you get XP to install ?
Doesn't your Laptop have a Blueray/DVD/Cdrom writer/reader ? If so why are you not using it to boot a OS CD like XP ?

was hoping to avoid a cd. But I guess I will have to slipstream and install that way.

Dell has a full driver set for the m6700 for xp. Despite it being "made" for w7, it has full compatibility/support for windows xp.

Getting it installed is the issue of course.
It does have a cd drive, I was debating on slip streaming drivers into the iso and attempting e2b or winsetup again,
If it fails I will attempt a cd slip streamed iso and see what happens I guess.

quick update
*ok well, very strange problem but i figured it out, the slipstream on the cd was not working nor was easy to boot, or winsetup.
so got a new xp home edition image, slipstreamed drivers again from dell for the m6700, cd again failed along with e2b failure but winsetup worked with the slipstreamed drivers and installed successfully.... i dont understand but it worked)
