Hello to everyone who love retro hardware.
I'm a happy owner of ASUS PC-DL DELUXE.
I discovered that there is an “improved” model of this board called ASUS NCCH-DL which support Xeon (Nocona).
Both of them were built at famous 82875 (Canterwood) chipset but "South bridges " are different.

Of course question about success modification lower version to bring it ability to start 90nm Xeon.

I had a PCH-DL myself, it was a good system but No you cant.

Its not an "improved" model, its a different motherboard.

Would it work for the PCH-DL?

There was nothing official to allow it.

off the top of my head, PC-DL was for the 533 FSB xeons, and the NCCH-DL was the one for the 800's.

I have the ncch-dl when it was new (ish). And it was a FAST board. Those 3.8 chips FLEW.

Yeah I would agree with that. I had some Prestonia core Xeons in my PCH-DL and it was one hell of a system. At the same time I had a MSI K7D Master with some MP 2800+ CPUs and they were amazing systems.
It wasnt until I went with a dual Clovertown system that I had a system that honestly beat either of them.

Unfortunately I only found one broken link to unlock hidden features. No mention of Xeon Nocona support

So there is no BIOS update that can make the board support an 800MHz FSB?

I'm not sure about it.
As i mentioned before both motherboards use same chipset - Canterwood, so limitations should be at hardware level.

yea, i looked it up, and you're right, but my memory is still telling me its a chipset limit.
