Ok, the Dell D620 is by no means a retro battlestation nor is it a period correct laptop for the Windows 98 SE. However, I managed to find a way to transform my cheap Dell D620 laptop into a pretty decent Win 98 retro machine with good resolution and audio.

The installation of the OS and getting the display/audio up and running did require a bit some effort on my part. Thankfully, by using R.Loew`s patches(PATCHMEM) , the universal VBE graphics driver and the quasi-universal HDA sound driver(a repacakged Windows 3.1 driver apparently), I managed to build myself a Win 98 laptop which can play audio files quite effortlessly. Obviously, there might be a few crashes here and there which is nothing atypical for Win 98. After all the XP era laptop has no working drivers for the 98 OS but it runs pretty stable with the universal audio/display drivers. For the very low price I bought the thing, I am more than happy.

Does this driver work with dos games ran from 98? If yes where did you get it

I actually have switched to a Dell C810 laptop now which has better compatibility and actual drivers that work under Win 98se.

As for the Dell D620 driver, I got it from a post here on the forum itself and also from scouting msfn. I managed to get Unreal Tournament sounds working using the driver.

Keep in mind that you need the correct HDAICOUT file for it to work. I also had all the necessary RLOEW patches(patchmem and other stuff). Also I installed the system by disabling ACPI and memory check ( setup /p i /nm /is).
