Hi! I'm searching a new heatsink for my pentium 4 3'4Ghz Prescott socket LGA 775, but I don't find any product compatible with LGA 775 on current webs. Furthermore, there is false information in some webs selling heatsinks compatible with 775 and after you find an unfortunately surprise (that's not compatible).

So, do you know a current model that I can buy on Amazon or something like that? Brands like Cooler Master or Noctua, its current models are not compatible.

Thanks a lot guys for the help.

Regards!

I would just grab something used on eBay.
A stock "normal height" Intel LGA775 cooler should technically handle that P4 fine (it will run a bit on the hot side under max load, but that's normal for a P4 Presscott.)
Alternatively, something like Arctic Freezer 7 Pro or Cooler Master Hyper 212 should be better.

If you contact Noctua, they have socket 775 mounting kits for many (most?) of their products, and if you buy new, they often supply the kits for free (not sure that it'll be free if you bought second hand though). They're not the cheapest, but they are among the best 😀

LGA 775 heatsinks are the same as LGA 1155 as well as some other sockets. you cant go wrong with the standard intel ones.

EDIT: ignore this they are not the same, but the intel ones can be made to fit with a little effort and the clips at an angle, only do this as a last resort if you cant find a 775 one that fits correctly.

The mounting spacing is slightly different. I know this because I had to ask Noctua for a mounting kit for a cooler I bought in the 1155 era that didn't have the required spacing, it was too new.

i stand corrected! i just took an intel one off my 1155 board and it doesnt fit on a 775 board wtf? i was sure they were the same.

EDIT: it is a few mm off but i did get it to fit, probably not ideal tho. the clips are at a slight angle but it is flush with the cpu.

RE-EDIT: its the Akasa ones similar to the intel ones that are interchangeable between 775 and 1155.

Ah, yes. They have a slot that the push pins pass through, so the pins slide into the correct position. Noctua use screws, and the earlier mounting system when 1155 was first around had holes in 3 positions on both the heatsink and the backplate, but by the time 1150 had come out, they had stopped supporting 775 on new products and only offered it as a separate kit. Seems a bit bizarre to me, if they give the 775 mounting kits for free when they could have kept the extra holes in the retail package much more cheaply. But I'm no business person, so perhaps I'm missing something in their logic 😀

That is simply not true. From google:

The 1155 (and other 115x) is a 75 mm square, 775 is a 72 mm square (hole to hole distance).

@OP - Thermalright's coolers seem to still support LGA775 - at least the Macho line does. Both my QX6700 and Q9700 builds use Thermalright Grande Macho and Macho HR02 respectively.

thats right as i mentioned above i was mistaken, they are not the same they are a few mm off but the 1155 intel ones can still fit a 775 board with the clips at a slight angle, i wouldnt advise it unless its your only option, the similar looking Akasa ones will fit 1155 and 775, as debs3759 said the push pins are slotted on the Akasa to compensate for the difference unlike the intel ones.

on my 775 board im using an Akasa heatsink from an 1155 board with an intel fan on top which i forgot, i assumed it was all intel hence my confusion.

There aren't really many modern options for 775 heatsinks. There is a cheap Startech one available on Amazon from what I can see.

Last year I bought a Be Quiet Pure Rock and a Dark Rock 3 from a 3rd party seller on Amazon. Looks like they aren't available on Amazon anymore, but sellers on Ebay do have them.

Thanks guys for all the answers. For the moment, I've just asked to a known online shop here in Spain if they have something in stock but not published in web. If there is not luck, I have located a Noctua NH-U12P SE by second hand complete with all the accessories. It's a little expensive... but there is not alternative and try with cooler master or artic is a risk because maybe I buy a model that's not compatible. I've returned two cooler masters models and I'm tired 🤣.

Cant say theyre easy to find but not impossible.
I not long picked up a nice little Scythe Kozuti SCKZT-1000 to go on top of a Asrock 775i65G and an E6700.
Not as hot as a P4 so it should work ok. Not sure if I would trust it to cool a P4 as it is quite small.

They do come up on ebay but you have to watch and wait.

Not sure what you mean. Perhaps the new models aren't compatible? It should say on the box, though.
Anyways, decent alternatives to the Hyper 212 Evo are also Hyper D92 and Hyper T2. The D92 and T2 are obviously both not as good as the 212, but they will still manage the heat from a P4 just fine.

Hi guys. Let's continue and finish with the adventure 😀

Finally, the online shop answered me with a pair of models that they have compatible with socket 775. I've choosen one of them, Tempest Cooler 4Pipes 120mm Ventilador CPU Basic. When it arrived I found the surprise that it's not compatible with the socket 775. There was not mention of 775 in the manual or on the box. I took a look at Tempest web and, yes, the model wasn't compatible. I contacted with support and talking with them and explaining all the problem, finally we arrived on the conclusion that the cooler maybe is compatible but the problem is the backplate that the current design are not compatible with socket 775. At the end, I returned the cooler. I was researching a little and I found out a lot of modern models was compatible with 775 before, from a date that I don't know, now there aren't. So, be careful with the online shops because the info they have maybe is outdated in some models. It's better to check at the brand web.

Finally, the located noctua on second hand was not necessary because I've located an Artic Freezer 7 Pro for 8€ 😀 . Very cheaper compared to noctuas that cost 50€.
