Wonderful work! It's totally playable right know on Windows 10, there are only a few glitches on the menu. The sound works perfectly, even the CD-DA audio tracks. The resolution scaling option is great, but very CPU hungry.
The correct fps limit, at least on my system, seems to be 25 fps, judging by the chronometer in time trial mode. Anyway, this game's speed has always been a total mess.
Updated with an optional faster renderer, I see about 70 FPS at 3440 x 1440 so should be plenty for this game. Only supports 16 bit, lacks a few render features, and image quality takes a small hit. Automatic letterboxing for non-4:3 landscape resolutions. The menu glitches I won't bother fixing right now.
My OG Mystique runs the game at 20 FPS, and comparing footage side by size, an FPS limit of 20 in the wrapper runs a tad slower and 21 a tad faster. So either would be the most accurate. But depends on taste, a limit of 30 gives a faster paced race without being clowny. It may also depend on your system how accurate the limiter timer is.
Compared to the Mystique, I can see that texture modulation by polygon color needs to be implemented since it's used for a few things in about every frame. I'm also getting the same crash with the wrapper on real hardware, always occurs in the same place and doesn't happen with the faster renderer, so something to do with the default renderer and not the game being speed sensitive.
Updated with various changes, up to you to discover.
Compared to the Mystique the wrapper looks to be accurate now. Some menu related effects aren't.
Haven't checked yet but this looks very cool, especially if the audio has been fixed. This ruined this version of the game and made me go back to the software version which was a shame as S3D was the better looking version.

What was the issue with the audio? I played briefly and the briefing and the CD audio seemed fine in a 15 minute playthrough
@vvbee Re: S3d wrappers
You mentioned of a 32 bit version. I think this it the 32bit one. Do you have the 16 bit version?

16 bit was removed from the default renderer, no speed difference. The fast renderer has it, but only RGB565.

Alright that works, thanks. Is there a reason you call it FAST Renderer?
Do you plan on adding support for other WIndows MSI apps?

Someone here did a really good in depth review of all the different versions but I can't find it now.
But what I meant was playing on real hardware the game is broken, with car engines not changing pitch, just the same constant drone.
Seems like the wrapper may have fixed this, I really hope so!

Updated to add optional emulation of the Mystique's fillrate, for those who want slowdowns in pileups. Empirically matched to my Mystique over one section of one track, so who knows how accurate it is really. More accurate than not anyway since the Mystique does have slowdowns rather than a constant FPS.

Thats the one!
and I remembered wrong, it's the lack of sound for the engine and crashing of AI cars that broke the game for me, as you cant hear what's going on around you (very useful for a racing game!)
