Hi, I got this but can't figure out what goes in as disks and/or the software needed.
On the installation disk (that do not work) it's written D2 Silverlining.

Pic of front bezel.

Edit:
D2 Silverlining looks like it's an enclosure for SCSI units.

DZ 750.C I then have no idea what it is.

I opened the enclosure and the model name is MCD750c.
If I'm correct it uses 750MB cartridges, probably tape.

Unit lights up and is responsive, but with no media I can't test it. 🙁

No, it's hard disk based...it uses these https://web.archive.org/web/19981201052814/ht … cd/nomai750.htm

The 750 cartridges are available on the bay, at some expense, although smaller capacity ones may be cheaper

Your d2 unit was exclusively for Macs apparently, though there's a W98 version of the Silverlining software on the LaCie archive...

The attachment SL98_v157.zip is no longer available

Here's a translation (German) from Mac MAGAZIN (Oct 97) re the cartridge...

The attachment Nomai 750c.txt is no longer available

Thanks, this helped.
I'll try it on W98.
I also have a G4 with 10.4, gonna see if it works but I doubt something this old to still be supported.

Unit was detected correctly and shows is the System summary.
Still have to test it on the G4.

Only issue is finding a cartridge at a decent price. Stuck at this for the time being.
In the process I watched many YT videos and read some stuff on the net.
Still learning new things 😀

It was a nice ride and helped better understanding backup solutions.

The 750.c cartridges are rare & expensive it seems but, if I'm reading it right, your unit is also compatible with the smaller Nomai MCD cartridges (540, 270 & 135MB) which are way more reasonable...check the bay for "Lot of 3" Nomai Multimedia Cartridge 540MB - NEW sealed (not my listing btw) for $29.99 obo

Thanks!
Also SyQuest are directly compatible.
Why is 90's tech so rare and difficult to find??? 🤣 🤣

Because during beginning 90s Internet was limited to dialup and mailboxes.
Most documentation came on paper with the devices, and very few companies scanned the documents of their old products to bring them online.
Sometimes you can even find the DTP-files for the printouts online, like some Pagemaker files.
Not to forget companies that do not exist anymore.
Private scanning and uploading to archive.org or other sites started just a few years ago.

Just recently I got an external LaCie SCSI HDD with some printed documentation on the Silverlining software.
Yesterday I was able to salvage a vanload full of old digital equipment documentation (covering pdps, and Rainbow) that might not be availiable online at all.
(Hopefully the receiver will at least scan and bring online at least the relevant parts of these)
