If I'm not mistaken, last thing they open-sourced was DOOM 3 BFG Edition (at least the engine). I suspect RAGE is old enough now. But maybe it's not a thing anymore since John Carmack resigned.

also their new engines are very much not modular and tied to their infrastructure so it'd probably be as good as useless when GPL'd.

John Carmack talked about open sourcing id Tech 5 back in the day, but it never happened. They were also saying back in the day that DOOM 3 BFG Edition, using parts of id Tech 5, is not as moddable as original. So the thing about lack of modularity applies here too?
