Aztech Waverider Pro 32-3D
downloaded drivers from dosdays site.
in autoexec.bat only variable SET with parameters is registered, but no any drivers is loaded.
In Windows 98 the driver is installed and you can hear both music and sounds, but there is no synthesizer.
The game has music and sounds, but the synthesizer on the 330 is not audible
How to make the card work with the synthesizer in DOS?

You could try Unisound. Nice little tool which detects most sound cards and configure it for you. Add it to autoexec.bat and you're done.

i386 16 ⇒ i486 DX4 100 ⇒ Pentium MMX 200 ⇒ Athlon Orion 700 | TB 1000 ⇒ AthlonXP 1700+ ⇒ Opteron 165 ⇒ Dual Opteron 856

I always launch unisound first on my cards, but the card is not PnP and accordingly the program does not see it.

Ah yes. What about config.exe from the Aztech driver?

I have such a card, too - Sound Galaxy Waverider Pro 32-3D - how to init WSS mode?

Your card seems jumpered for "SOFTWARE SETTING", which requires some init utility in CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT.
Try to move the jumper to "EEPROM SETTING", configure it with default settings, and make sure they are written to the EEPROM.

It may be necessary to set all three IRQs used by that card as "Legacy ISA" in BIOS.

First, what version of DOS are you using?

It's recommended to use pure DOS.
Windows 9x with BootGUI=0 is also OK.

Second, try the attached software - you probably need to extract it onto a floppy, and run INSTALL.EXE from there...

with your drivers there is no sound on General midi either.
I also set BootGUI=0

What games are you trying?
I usually use Doom to test sound cards.

Oops, meanwhile I've installed the card, and can't make a photo now - I will do it later if really necessary.
Anyway, all the jumpers are in the leftmost position - which, among other things, means EEPROM SETTING.

In the BIOS:
- Load setup defaults
- IRQ 5 = Legacy ISA
- IRQ 9 = Legacy ISA
- IRQ 10 = Legacy ISA

OS is Windows 98SE with BootGUI=0
Originally, nothing sound related in CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT

a:
install
installation directory = C:\WAVRIDER
Do you wish to make changes on hardware and CD-ROM settings? - YES
HARDWARE CONFIGURATION -> DEFAULT SETTING
WARNING: This will restore the sound card to its default settings. All changes will be lost! - Continue
SB: 220H, IRQ 5, DMA 1
MWSS: Yes, 530H, Enabled
MPU401: Yes, 330H, IRQ 2
Do you want to restore the default settings? - Accept
Factory default settings are restored successfully!
RESET button

CONFIG.SYS - no changes

AUTOEXEC.BAT - the following got added:
SET GALAXY=A220 I5 D1 K10 P530 T6
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T4
SET SOUND=C:\WAVRIDER

The Ultimate DOOM Setup ver 1.9
Music - General MIDI - 330
Sound - Sound Blaster - 220 - IRQ 5 - DMA 1 - Number to mix 3
Save parameters and launch DOOM

...works fine with both music and SFX!

DIAGNOSE.EXE -> MIDI-OUT
Can hear the notes without any problems.

Obviously, no resident "WaveTable driver" is necessary.

See also mixer settings:

The attachment mixer.png is no longer available

Looks like there's no option for separate volume control of FM and WT - if you can hear FM, but no WT, then I suspect broken hardware...

Thanks for the info, unfortunately I have everything set up exactly the same way. Most likely the synthesizer chip is faulty.
I have two Waverider 32-3D pnp cards with SEC chips and it would probably be possible to swap them, but I really wanted a card with a re-labeled Aztech chip. 🙁

Do you have any other cards that can conflict with 330h ?
I've just realized that ISA Ethernet cards can use that address...

I have this card and could install it in DOS just fine, I think I used these drivers. Just use the configuration utility, set the resources and after that it should work, no matter if EEPROM is being used or not.
