I have a W98 SE computer. The gameport is from my Audigy 2.

W98 detects my joystick or digital gamepad (both gameport) fine. I can also calibrate it without issues in the W98 utility (in control panel).

However, even after doing that, if I open up any game (really old like Tubular Worlds, or modern for W98 like Colin McRae 2.0) I get automatic scrolling up through menus, sometimes automatic scrolling right as well.

The weird thing is, in Colin McRae 2.0 you can calibrate the joystick, set dead zones, sensitivity...and it's all perfectly fine there for all axes. But go back to any other menu and the drifting (if that is what it is) starts all over again.

So, it's apparently not a hardware issue as all is fine when calibrating it in W98.

Any idea? My motherboard also has a gameport, but I think it is non-functional on this no-option version of the motherboard; it also has no switch for it in the BIOS. The problem does not exist when nothing is plugged into the Audigy gameport.

I also notice that the games run a LOT slower when a controller is plugged into the game port. So something is not going riggt; this is not a mere calibration error or drift.

After a full clean reinstall of the pc, the problem persists. Weird!

With a bit of luck I'll soon have a front usb connector so I can use USB peripherals, but still this gameport misbehaviour is weird. Hopefully it doesn't happen with usb!
