I am an absolute sucker for low profile 486 and pentium machines. SUCKER. So I ended up with this AST Bravo LP system that's super tiny and never thought to check if it had cache before upgrading it from a 486 DX 50Mhz to a DX2 66 (pointless I know haha). Then I realized there was no cache on this board and nowhere to install one. I was browsing Ebay and somehow while searching "AST Cache" came across this proprietary card that claimed it was an industrial computer part and remembered seeing a nearly identical set of connectors on the motherboard of my little machine. So I bought it and lo and behold it fit the socket!
I booted up hoping that nothing went wrong and I was greeted with 64k of cache! I plan to run Cacheck to see how the configuration works out and how much RAM it's able to cache. The kicker was I took a risk at just $15 when I see these all online now for about $90 or more and it sure did pay off! It's super tempting to not drop my DX4 100 in here instead of my full-size Gateway machine but I know without being able to cache enough RAM it is kind of pointless aside from having a fast and tiny 486 to brag about haha.
