New thread from: Build log: a Build with no direction but there is a goal in mind.

Anyway since I was scammed on so many of the parts I was going to use I thought I'd start a new build log as I'm going a 100% different direction here.

So with the last build I was going for a over kill 9x system, my main goal was to be able to play very late dos games at high resolution, something dos box struggles with at times and still be able to run 9x for games like mechwarrior and all those annoying games with 16bit installers.

After I tried to return all the junk parts I got off eBay I was banned form eBay and TBH I really don't want to use them anymore as I keep getting scammed there so I dug around the last of the parts I had laying around in still in the basement. I found a old lga 775 benching board that would have been perfect if it was not covered in petroleum jelly, had a modded VRM and was hardly working. then I found my old file server, a x79 system a revo drive a 980ti that I latter found out is a titian x along with some water cooling bits. I had about 75% of what I need to make a killer XP gaming PC from it. I figured close enough and all I need is some cooling bits and PSU.

90+% of what I want to do can be done on XP sooo XP it is.

The motherboard. its a asrock board, nothing special.
The ram is 32gb worth of ddr3
I found a few xeons a 12core even, but I think I'll go with a 1680 I found as it can be overclocked.
The GPU is a titian X and will need modded drivers. being a post DX10 card I would not be able to natively play dos games, boooooo. So I will have to use dos box until I find a better suited card like a 4890 or 285. Or maybe even a 295 or 4870 x2.
There was a heat killer book on the x79 board so I'll use it and I found a newer 360mm rad I'll use to.
The revo drive I spoke about will be used to but at 240gb I'll need something more.

OK so there are some parts I need, fans, a PSU, more storage and so on, stuff i can get off amazon or microcenter locally.

The next problem is getting the games want to play to work. late dos games in dos box at high resolution do not always work well. Blood, duke3d, mechwarrior 2 mercenaries and so on. no 9x and only one usable PCI slot means no 3dfx s no early glide only games in hardware so I'll have to get that one working too .

For build engine games I know there is eduke32 and that might be a better option. I may have to mod the windows version of mechwarrior 2 mercenaries a to support higher resolution. Over all I feel I can make it work for the late dos games with minimal use of hot mess that is dosbox and its low frame rates.

I have some of the system already put together so after work I'll start posting photos.
