Hello everyone, and happy sunday!
the other day i dusted off my dad's old Compaq Armada E500, Windows 98 SE installed from the Armada e500 recovery disk, which happens to have a ESS Maestro sound device.
So far, i've been having issues running games properly by a sound point of view.
DOS games either have very low volume or do not have sound at all, General MIDI and Pro Audio Spectrum seem to work for music, but only in the main menus, when ingame, the sound cuts off.
as for Win9x games, games like WinQuake just crash the system, Quake 2 has broken sounds, Unreal doesn't even run.
if possible, is there an alternate audio driver i can install to have the games play properly? it seems that the drivers that came out with the recovery disk do not work at all. i even tried in pure dos mode by adding MAESTRO.COM on the autoexec.bat file, but the result does not change.
if anyone would be able to help me out, it'd be a marvel.
Thank you all in advance! 😀
