Hi everyone, I have built 14 identical PCs for a LAN session some years ago. This is our 9th year already and we have a lot of fun during those sessions.

The setup is:
14x
E8600 CPUs on P35 Mainboards
2 GB RAM
320 GB SATA HDD
ATI HD5770 but I am thinking of moving to the GTX660 (20 bucks) because of some ATI bugs (Battle Realms stutters for example) plus it might also save some Watts
Soundblaster 128 and Soundblaster Audigy 2 (mixed)
350 Watt power supplies
Windows XP Pro 32 Bit
17 inch Benq 4:3 monitors with 75 Hz

So aside from all the usual CS 1.5, Starcraft, C&C, Battlefield 2, Warcraft 3 candidates, is there something you have tried which blew you away, unexpectedly?

We have found some highlights and some we would have never touched in Single Player:
- Blur is like Mario Kart for Windows and really rocks in LAN mode with 14 players + 6 more AI drivers
- Flatout 1 and 2 is great too (8 P)
- Armies of Exigo is a nice alternative to (8-12 P for a RTS!!!)
- Red Faction (8 P)
- Duke Nukem 3D via Dosbox network connection on the map Spincycle is MADNESS 😁
- Age of Mythology (8P)
- Giants Citizen Kabuto has the weirdest MP I have ever seen. Practically every race needs around 30 minutes to build the base to full potential which unlocks a lot of weapons some players will probably never see (helicopter, monster traps, water speeder) but you cannot get there because you cannot finish building the base while being in warfare with the other races so it all is a deathmatch with level 1 weapons which is probably why only a few like the game.
- World in Conflict has a great system with points and very beautiful effects

What I want to try is Act of War , Paraworld and Prey (2006) because they look as if they could be fun.
Any recommendation is highly welcome and I will try it. The only requirement is that a lot of players can play it.

The good thing is that new stuff would not run but it cannot run because this setup above is what I consider to be the PC specs that can run the last LAN games at more than decent FPS.

I hope SRB2Kart (16 players) works on those things. That's a multiplayer-only kart racer on some extremely extreme'd Doom Legacy and has loads of addons available (if you know a game or cartoon/anime character, they probably got a kart). But whether the srb2kart binary functions on XP is a thing I never considered

bzflag - simple tank / capture the flag game. Been around for several decades. Great fun.

Thank you all very much. I already tried SRB2Kart and this is going to be added. Wow. Never new it existed. I hope I can add some more driver skins and maps for some more fun.

If you are interested: On standard XP SP3 it crashes because of a DLL that is too old in the systems32 folder. Its dbghelp.dll or similar. This dll is shipped with a lot of software so I copied it from my GTX660 XP driver to the SRB2Kart folder and the game worked/started.

Airfix Dogfighter is next on my list. 😀
