Recently I have been playing fallout 1 and noticed that sometimes getting it working on older hardware is a pain. This is the windows version of the game and it seams to be very picky about which types of systems it likes working on and which video settings it seams to want. Below is what I have experienced and would love to know if anyone else has had similar problems with the game?

Windows 95 - Game will launch but then crash to the desktop, does not seam to matter which video settings I have or drivers... Only tried in emulation tho via Pcem
Windows 98 - Very picky on video settings. Game wants to be launched with video settings set to 800x600 256bit color. Everything else it will complain and fail to launch.
Windows ME- Funny enough works the best.... Game launches without issues regardless of video settings. - Only tested using pcem.

For most of these tests the only video cards I tried were a voodoo3 2000 and a mach64.

Pcem isn't old hardware.
If you are only testing on pcem then best to ask on the pcem forum, we don't develop pcem here.
If you are testing on a real system then specify.
Fallout 1 isn't picky at all.

I figured this was a software section of the forum that's why I posted these tests via PCEM. I am aware it does not behave like old hardware.
One of my tests via windows 98 was on real hardware and it still had some issues with fallout1. and I thought it was clear that it did since I dident say I was using PCEM for that.
I wanted to see if others had similar issues with real hardware / emulated stuff with this title I was not looking for support or development help with PCEM...
I also don't really suspect its purely emulation issues since changing nothing but the OS changed the behavior, an example is using windows 98 over ME and ME being able to adjust the resolution and color settings.

Anyway your post kinda comes off as weirdly hostile, is it because emulation was mentioned or something else?

Probably cause this subforum is about running software on old hardware, not emulation.
For PCem issues, go to their forum https://pcem-emulator.co.uk/phpBB3/

I don't remember having any problems with F1 on 9x hardware back in the day, it was very stable.

Are you running a modified version, like the one from GoG which is patched for modern OS? The original only supports 640x480.
