I bought this Pentium 3 computer with a 600mhz and I was going to put a 1ghz in it. I don't understand how it's mounted. What do I need to do to get the old CPU out? Looks like this.

What I usually do with these is I push the white locking pins from the backside of the board. With those removed, you can then pull out both black plastic pieces of the retention mechanism first to safely remove the CPU from the slot.
I'm sure there's a "proper" way of removing the CPU without taking apart the retention mechanism first, but in my case all attempts ended up with the plastic things breaking. The original SECC was way better and much more intuitive.
Thank you, I was hoping to not have to remove the motherboard but if that's what it takes.

Hopefully you shouldn't need to...those look like the later SECC2-specific grounded retention mechanisms - Re: To ditch or not to ditch, that is the question
There's a fuller explanation of the removal technique in the manual of the Intel L440GX+ motherboard ( 'Removing a Processor' pages 26 - 27) - https://theretroweb.com/motherboard/manual/in … 82273479958.pdf
Um pull the black mechanism a bit and pull the cpu?
Like ram. But without the assist
I built:
Convert old ASUS ASC boardviews to KICAD PCB!
Re: A comprehensive guide to install and play MechWarrior 2 on new versions on Windows.
Dos+Windows 3.11+tcp+vbe_svga auto-install iso template
Script to backup Win9x\ME drivers from a working install
Re: The thing no one asked for: KICAD 440bx reference schematic
Thanks guys. I was just worried about destroying a 25+ year old part by not knowing the correct technique.

This, just like this.
